Camtasia for Mac 2.1 Released -- Clip Speed, Remove a Color, & more

Today the Camtasia for Mac team happily released it's first minor update since 2.0.

The BIG features 2.1 includes are:

Clip Speed -- speed up or slow down your video or audio, and

Remove a Color -- also known as chroma key or green screening

You can find tutorials on how to use these new abilities in the Tutorial Viewer accessed via Camtasia's Help menu, or you can see them on our website:

Other great things you can do now:

Add tags and descriptions to your YouTube video before uploading

Hide the Camtasia recording icon in the menu bar

Choose if you want none, both, the left, or right clip to be selected after a split

Do more things via keyboard shortcuts

Access more fonts in typeface families that have lots of variants

As always, the team has also squashed a lot of existing bugs and refined how many of the existing features work to make the whole experience a lot nicer.

Just tweeted a thanks... have been wanting clip speed - very very much.

One request. I've just started using the new device framing FX. Would it be possible to get a generic monitor and laptop? We do not use Macs in-house, and I'm getting a little pushback on that. Would love an ugly WinTel laptop or generic monitor to frame content.

James, you can import any png file with transparency to use as a device frame. Snagit on Mac or Windows can create those png files for you.

David, thanks. I don't see an import feature. Yes, I could take a PNG that I put together and place on the timeline... and then insert and align the video clip. the FX feature is nice, in the sense that it is easier to animate, and resize the video into the clip. I looked to see if I could add images... I've tried to add an image to the resources folder within the package contents, and the feature does not see that file. None the less, lots of great new stuff in Camtasia 2... 2.1 just makes it better.

  Sam, clip speed has been available for sometime using Camtasia studio 7 - it needs to be applied to an an entire clip segment. Click on the segment, and right click for the speed option (if I remember correctly). The speed is a percentage. It will normally be at 100% - you can go slower or faster by adjusting the percentage. The clip on the timeline will then show a blue bar and the length will adjust based on the new speed.

  Clip speed sounds awesome, I will definitely try that out! Regarding the chroma key (green screen), is this functionality that will eventually be coming for the PC as well? If so (and until that time), is there a recommended workaround?

I've been a loyal Techsmith customer for many years using Snagit then Camtasia on both the PC and the MAC. I just installed the Snagit for Mac 2.1 update. It appears that once again the MAC is the ugly stepsister relocated the basement while the PC version gets all the bells and whistles.

What is worse is your marketing department doesn't know the difference between a MAC and a PC! I just got an email today stating the 2.1 has the following features:

I can't find any of these three features in the version of Snagit for the Mac I just updated to (Snagit 2.1.0 (66802). When I clicked the link in the attached image, I was taken to the Snagit 11 for Windows announcement and shown a bunch of features us poor MAC folks don't have...

Am I missing something here or are the features missing? Where are the instructions for these three features as I can't figure out how to use any of them. Note the web page capture said just drag the URL and drop it on the Snagit Icon in the doc. That most definitely does not work. I don't have a clue how the other two work.

Also, will we ever get the text copy feature that has been on the PC version since about 1.0????

  Just to be clear to anyone reading this, Bob is talking about the latest release of Snagit, not Camtasia. (The forum doesn't allow me the ability to split this topic off onto another thread.)
  
  In terms of how to use the new features, please see the tutorials at the bottom of this table: http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-sna... For example, to capture multiple areas, hold the Command key as you click and drag your selection areas.
  
  When you clicked the link, were you by chance on a Windows machine? The site is set up to detect what type of computer one is on to attempt to get them to the right product initially.
  
  Lastly, we have some evidence that text capture is rarely used. We would love to learn more about why this feature is important to you. The best way to add to this discussion might be to post your feedback to this thread: http://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmi...
