Screencast playback controls for fast forward or rewind
DOES SCREEN CAST PLAYBACK HAVE FAST FORWARD AND REWIND OR FAST AND SLOW PLAY SPEEDS?
-
The Screencast playback controls depend on the content that you upload. We try to embed videos with the correct video player, so mov's will embed with QuickTime, asf's will embed with Windows Media Player and so on. You would have access to whatever controls that player allows for that content.
If you upload an mp4, we use our own player which has scrubbing controls that you could use to skip around in the video, but you cannot control the play speed.
Great question!

Thank you for the quick reply. How do I use the scrubbing controls to skip around in the video?
I sure with your own MP4 player allowed more simple juser controls. I'll make that a suggestion. -

I believe I understand that some file types other than MPR uploaded to Screencast.com do allow for more coltrols. I am novice at this so can you please tell me which file types these are. Is that .mov and .asf? Thank you.

I understand the best video format ut use is MP4. On the MP4 player is there a rewind and replay capability?

Suggest that the MP4 player allow for more controls, like fast forward, rewind, slide from time to time. Screencast.com is terrific.

Hi again,
I made a short video that explains how you can use the scrub bar to fast forward and rewind video. Please watch it (with your audio on) and let me know if this helps explain it.

Also, please keep responding to this thread. When you make new messages on the same topic it's more difficult for us to track your question.
I hope this helps!

Hi Glenn Hoeppner,
Thank you for your quick reply and the very neat video. Now it is clear. The scrub bar on my MP4 video file does not work. The problem I am hanving is that the slider you demonstrated so well does not work for the MP4 videos I have on Screencast.com. I tried it many times before ever requesting help. The scrub bar shows, but when I move the sliders the video just keeps on playing on as if nothing is done. It has no effect. Are my MP4 recordings defective? Can I fix them?
Please try my recordings if you wish.

Also, thank yor for being so responsive. I loved the video explanation. It was most helpful. I also think Screencast should be a terrific service for my needs. I love it except for this issue. This little snag with the scrub bar not working has been massively frustrating. It has made me feel like I haven't a clue what I'm doing despite trying hard to understand.
Best regards,

I need need the ability to go back and replay viedos. I understand that scurbbing controls let the user of the MP4 player jump around in the player. I got this aswer from a prior question. How do I make use of the scrubbing controls?

Thanks for posting links to your videos.
I just spoke with one of the Screencast.com developers about your video. As it turns out, there is a bug in Screencast.com where it will fail when inspecting your mp4. When this happens, it will prevent skipping from working in your video.
I do not know when this will be fixed, but I'm told it's currently their highest priority item.
This isn't ideal, but as a workaround, try uploading your broken videos again, because it doesn't always fail. I re-uploaded one of your videos to my own account to try this and I was able to get scrubbing in one of your videos. (I promptly deleted your video from my account after testing.)
Sorry for the trouble,

Okay Glen,
Thanks for the information. I'll try reuploading. I assume this uses some of my alloted bandwidth. I up loaded a shorter trial video and scrubbing controls worked for it.
I am sure glad you told me one of my posted videow worked afte re-uploading.
Best regards,

FYI, we don't charge you bandwidth for uploading content, only for downloading/viewing it.

Dear Glen,
Thank you for your help on this vexing issue. Justin Carpenter found the problem to be that my old MP4 files had a compression technique that disabled the slider/scurbber control on the Flash Player. He very kindly transcoded the files and they now play well. Issue resolved. He also told me how to fix my other old MP4 files so they shoud play well and I can avoid rerecording them.
Thanks again,

I'm glad you were able to finally able to get this resolved and I know it was causing you a lot of issues.
We do our best to make things easy, but as you've encountered working with videos is complicated business. It's especially hard when the problems you're running into are out of our control.
Sorry for all the problems you had,
