I am using Camtasia 8. My problem is that i'm working on a 8 minute video that contains hundreds of split video files, sound files etc and the interface is grinding to a fault when i open the file. It takes up 1.2 gb of memory now and i haven't finished with the video.
I think this is because when you split a video file (for example), it effectively duplicates the video file. You can see this by taking the video file and using the stretch horizontal arrows on the beginning or end to take the video beyond the points that you split it in.
Is there a way that you can split a video file but it only contain the video segment you need?

Is it possible to split content (eg video) without it duplicating the content?

the slowing down of editor as you add splits is, in large part, caused by the increased complexity of the camproj file
to restore performance after a lot of editing, produce to AVI, and use that AVI to continue project -

AVI is lossless encoding; it will give you highest quality possible when you produce from it again. Using something like MP4 is OK, has smaller file size, but will introduce loss of quality next time around.
