Jing is so easy, Why kill it?
Jing allows me to easitly capture partial images so easily. Snagit is cumbersome. (I just learned Snagit has a new verson.) Why do you limit the life of Jing? Why can't we run it as a standalone program without support after 2013?

Hi Woodrow, we are glad that you love using Jing! Jing in fact is not being killed, it will continue to be available for free use on Windows PCs and Macs.
We have decided to discontinue our Jing Pro subscription version, we think that the added functionality for video capture in Snagit 11 and Snagit for Mac 2 is a win all around for customers (mp4 recording and no 5-minute limit.)
The free version of Jing is great for quick still image captures as always, and video capture in SWF format (under 5 minutes) is still available. -

David; thanks... but that year-ago response is disingenuous in a sense.
'Free' JING was intentionally crippled; is useless; because it's only SWF format (need MPGE for IOS devices). Also; the absence of integrating the picture-in-picture means an analyst, teacher or even sales person, can't alternate screen cam with screen-capture in a short video. Yes you can in Camtasia; but that's too complex and time consuming for quick-and-fast responses to customers, or time sensitive comments during the stock market day for example.
It's not money; I've paid (as others) for Camtasia and SnagIt; but unless SnagIt is improved it's nowhere near the utility that Jing PRO was.... I hear that your new Product Developer 'doesn't get it and won't bring it back' ... is she just stubborn? Do you guys (and I really like the personal touch from your staff normally) tell her that 'customer need' is what fuels revenue growth and attention to a company?
While the focus may be drivin by mobile, is TechSmith making the mistake Microsoft did; and focus on 'consumption' of video or pictures; not not creation? Creation and video prep will primarily be on computers for some years yet... OR at least make something like Jing PRO for an iPhone that can capture the 'cam' but also the screen..... meanwhile we use SnagIt; as an overly complex but less featured product. Enhance it or bring back Jing Pro please.
