Rotate Image in SnagIt for Mac
Please add the option to rotate an image with just one step in Snagit for Mac. This is a must for any image application and I'm still surprised that Snagit for Mac 1.0 doesn't have this.

1Quick update to this thread. We added rotate image functionality in version 2, but this thread slipped through the cracks. Here's a video showing how it works: http://screencast.com/t/8REc4uZ0
Thanks for all the posts and feedback,

Hi Mikhail, thank you for the suggestion. Our current workaround is to drag the image from the Tray to Preview and use the rotate feature in Preview.

ericd May 09, 2011 21:41Thanks for the work around... seems like this is something that wouldn't be terribly burdensome to implement as a standard control though.. as Puppies mentioned.. it's pretty important.EditDeleteRemove

I'm a long term Windows Snag-it user, and I can't believe I can't rotate an image in Mac Snag-it! What the @$ ? BASIC design flaw?
Snagit help has NOT ONE ENTRY for "rotate"
Over the past year I contributed beta users to the Mac trial (I didn't have a mac, but referred people)
Now that I have a Mac - Why continue after a 30 day trial?
Very disappointing. -

As you have surely noticed, Snagit for Mac is at version 1.0.0 while Snagit for Windows is at version 10.0. Our developers are working to add features to the Mac product and we definitely appreciate customer input as to what tools they would use.

I got customer support for this issue months ago, and now completely forget how to do it. How do I drag an image to preview? I appreciate that snag it is in 1.01 - but come now. I think this feature is worth a 1.1 release.

Hi, I made a little 30 second video showing the work-around:
http://screencast.com/t/MDnh418jE
Hope that helps! -

Thanks, Mike. That helps.
I have another question about how do I change font size that i'll post on anothr thread. -

Thanks for the video, Mike! One note- if you have vector annotations such as arrows, you would need to flatten the image (Edit->Flatten) before dragging it into the new document so those annotations are also rotated. Please note that once an image is flattened, you can no longer edit those annotations.

It's hard to believe 1-you guys missed this in the first place, and 2- it's still not fixed.

this is an absolutely necessary basic function. There seems to be a large gap between the PC and mac versions of this tool unfortunately. They should be identical.

Jeff, the Rotate Image function has been implemented in Snagit for Mac 2. You can download the Snagit for Mac 2 trial or upgrade from within Snagit for Mac 1.

Do I have to pay to upgrade? This is something I have complained about as well. I have v 1.0.3. I have no problems upgrading, but do if they want me to pay more for a core feature like this.

Hello Claire,
Going up to a major version from a previous version does require an upgrade cost, which is 50% of the price, or in this case about $25. You can verify, just in case, here: http://www.techsmith.com/upgrade/snag...
We've released version 2, and the big feature was the ability to record video in addition to capture images. You can learn more here: http://www.techsmith.com/snagit-mac-w...
I'm sorry I don't have the answer you were hoping for, but I hope that answers your question.
Sincerely,

Thank you. Very direct reply. And in fact, after looking at the feature changes, I might just upgrade. I train and present a lot, so I need the added features! :) Thank you.
