Upload and Sharing Errors (2s, 400s, 500s)
After making a recording, the app won't allow me to play it back (player appears but does not play - although I can scroll through) or upload to the screen chomp website(error message). Boohoo. Any thoughts?

We have updated ScreenChomp to version 1.4 that dramatically increases the reliability of sharing your videos. We apologize the incredibly long and painful time period that this has been happening. We have also removed the Facebook login to eliminate some confusion. Thank very very much for your patience and happy Chomping!

ScreenChomp.com gives a 404
Built-in browser in app not working properly e.g giving feedback fails to,let you login and have to open in safari to login in here. -
-
-
-
Hi... I think I answered some of your concerns in the other post as far as the 404... as for the facebook log-in - you are not required to log-in. You can share to screenchomp.com without a log-in (thus no screenchomp.com account). You only need to "log-in" if you want to share to facebook.. thus your facebook ID
-
Thanks for clarifying re login.
Can I suggest then that the login icon is amended to make this clear .. maybe the words Share via and the blue Facebook 'f'.
Any chance you folks are working on a Jing iPad app? I really need this for education demos for the iPad. -

We have another topic going with discussion about recording the iPad screen. I'm not sure we are going to ever see a screen recorder because of Apple's technical requirements. You can capture screenshots by pressing the home and sleep buttons together, and either annotate that with an iPad image editing program or bring it to your computer for editing.

Colleen... could you send us a screenshot of your problem?

Thanks, Colleen... We have seen this in our testing. We have been looking into this and from what we've seen it has to do with us talking to Facebook.
Apologies and know this is in TechSmith Labs and we know there are a couple of kinks :) -

No worries... looking forward to the fix... please post when you think you've got it? Thanks!

Hello,
Made a video and then clicked on the Screenchomp icon. I keep getting this error message:
"I have no idea what this means but the cloud gave us this excuse "2". Touch to try again."
Does this mean I cannot share what just took me close to an hour to create? The video is about 4-5 minutes if that makes any difference. Any help is appreciated!!!

Screenchomp won't let me share a video.. -
-
Hi Ann - first off, apologies for you not being able to upload the video. Would you mind sharing the name of the video and we could take a look at what the issue is? We can took a look at what's going on in the cloud - we won't see your video, just its status. In the meantime, let us know if it uploads.
Very sorry and thanks again! -
-
Tried replying to this message earlier. Don't think it went through. Anyway, I did make a couple more "shorter videos" thinking the length could be the problem. Their names are:
"Adding/Subtracting Decimals"
"Adding/ Sbutracting Decimals Vers2"
"Add/Subtract Example 1"
Update: I just finished making another video titled, "ScreenChomp 8/8/11 110:54 AM" along with some other test videos to see if it was my router. Anyway, those worked!!
Not sure why I can't send the other videos on addiing/subtracting decimals. If there is anyway you can help me with those that would be greatly appreciated.
Any help on those videos would be appreciated!
Thanks! -
-
Hi Ann, the problem there is using a forward slash in the name, there are certain "illegal" characters for Internet use and that is one along with the question mark, asterisk, ampersand, pound sign, etc.
-
-
I tried changing the title of the video to "Multiplying_Decimals" and then to "Multiplyingdecimals". Both names give me the same error.
I have been able to send a few videos through this morning, but now can't send any again. The ones that did work, had forward slashes in the title.
Any thoughts? -
-
Please tell me there is an answer to this? I've just recorded one (25min). First said it overwhelmed by ipad so no preview (but can still share). Then sharing failed (but I can now preview). When I clicked share again, I get the "the cloud tells me the error is "2"". I don't want to recreate - any more detail about the error, and if I will be able to get my recording off the ipad. I can wait for 4-6 hrs, but need to redo some other way if its dead. (I CAN still play entire thing in preview).
-
-
@bbower No one ever gave me an answer that would fix my problems. I think it may have been a router issue on my end. I had a colleague tell me if it's over 5 minutes then that creates more chances of an error? Don't know if this true. I did end you having to rerecord my videos.
-
-
Thanks for that - I changed networks, and am now getting at "error 500".
Of interest - I created a 24 minute video as test, and it uploaded fine (after this issue happened, and on the new network). Now I just want to have that upload work on my recorded video.
Hope there is some way to diagnose this. The errors are very "developer dependent". -
-
Same problem here. The app worked the first time I used it, but not since. I was really hoping to be able to recommend ScreenChomp to my teaching colleagues, it would solve a number of problems we have in our online course, but they are not tech-savvy, and so any app I recommend absolutely has to work. This one doesn't.

I just downloaded ScreenChomp and created three short videos to test out the product. The first two I tried to send to ScreenChomp.com and the third to Facebook. All three came back with a "2" error. Any help would be great. Thought this would be a fabulous app for my students, but not so fab yet.

We are definitely looking into this issue! Thank you all for your feedback!

We found what the problem was on our end. Things should be back normal for you - please give it a try and let us know!

Yeah!!!!!!! Things seem to be working great now! Thank you so much!

This app isn't working for me. It was working when I first downloaded it, but soon I started getting the "2" error message. Now I can't upload anything to the cloud. I've tried making shorter videos, reinstalling the app. Neither worked to solve the problem. Then I tried logging in with Facebook - and after I entered my information the app failed to connect through FB and kept giving me error messages. I am disappointed that this app isn't working, as I had plans to use it to create a fair amount of content.

We are looking into this and we'll keep you posted.

I am having this same issue today. I tried it from three different iPad2's and all gave the same error message. Glad I tested it today, because I was planning on demoing this app with a bunch of teachers tomorrow. I'll go with another screencasting app in the meantime. Will the app be updated when this is fixed?

I posted the same issues a month ago. I was using the iPad 2 to make a video and kept getting an error. Very frustrating after having to do it over and over again. Anyway, I changed my router to the Apple Extreme and haven't found a problem since! It's an expensive change from my Belkin but we kept losing signal on our laptop and iPad with the Belkin router and I was frustrated with it. We have only Apple computers at home. Anyway, now that I have typed this I hope I don't jinks it, but I made a 6 minute screen cast the other day with no problems.

-
I keep getting excuse "2" errors every one in a while, maybe 1 out of 12 videos. It happens at home and at work, when I try to upload to the cloud. Love ScreenChomp otherwise.
Oh yeah, it would be nice to be able to toggle between different eraser sizes, perhaps like one selects various colors for the pens. And while I'm at it, you probably have enough screen real estate to have 4 pens. :) -
-
I have not been able to upload to the cloud either...was really hoping to be able to use this program.
-
-
We have fixed one of the issues causing the Error 2s and are looking into other issues. Thanks for your patience!

I have been getting an error uploading my ScreenChomp to ScreenCast. Here is the error - I have no idea what this means but the cloud gave us this excuse - "2." I really need to upload and link as it is a tutorial.
Thanks!

Thanks everyone for continuing to post your errors... I assure you we are continually looking into this. Apologies for your frustrations :(

I'm experiencing the same problem error "2". I do have a background image in my video that is in .png format. Does that matter -- the format of the bg image? What about the file name of the bg image -- does it matter at all? Tks in advance...John
-
-
Thanks John. Your name and background image should not affect it. Error 2s crop up for several different reasons. I'll keep you posted on our progress.

I am getting "2" errors on about half of the iPads in my science classroom. It is frustrating because there is no way to retrieve videos that students have worked on. Could you add the ability to export the videos to the photo library (a la VidRhythm) for situations when the server can't connect?
I will stop using the app until this is fixed. Thanks for your help.-
I too am getting this same error when I am trying to send to cloud..error 2. Its frustrating when students have worked on things and then we can not save.
thanks

I agree! At this point I could upload it elsewhere, if only there was a way for me to save the file they created!

I am also having the error "2" message when I attempt to upload to the cloud. Additionally, I cannot retrieve the videos through iPad synchronisation. At this point, the videos cannot be accessed or utilised.

I'm getting the same issue.
My videos are
Multiplication basics
Division multiplication relation
ScreenChomp 1/2/12 4:45pm
Some work others don't after not having issues before?
Is there another way to get them from the IPad to my Utube account without first sending them to the cloud? -
-
Screenchomp won't allow video to be saved/uploaded to cloud. I'm not referring to Facebook however.

I am sad to say that I am at the point where I will have to stop using Screen Chomp and go to another recordable whiteboard app. I have been trying to share 2 important lessons with my substitute teacher at school for 3 days, to no avail. The lessons will not load to the cloud. Also, on a much smaller note, but still annoying, why is there a limit to the number of times you can pause while recording a video? Sorry TechSmith, I was singing your praises all throughout my district, but now I feel a bit foolish in doing so.

Hi Steve, thanks for the note and our serious apologies on the trouble ScreenChomp caused you. We can't blame you for looking elsewhere - especially after three days of ScreenChomp not working properly. I assure you we are continuing to try and solve this issue and we have an idea of what is causing all of these errors. If it matters, we are fairly confident that once the issue is fixed you will be able to resend you videos in your error bin and the videos will upload. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you definitively when that will be. Again, thank you for trying to stick with us and our sincere apologies for not getting the job done.
Also to Keith, Kolson, TheAncientScholar, Paul and others - we know we are not fulfilling your expectations and we are doing everything we can to resolve this issue.
Take care and thank you,
Jeremy Vanisacker

I've just installed ScreenChomp and I am getting errors. If I look at your videos to resolveo the issue.....there are choices as to where to send the video. The only thing I can do is hit the screen chomp fellow who has a question mark at the lower bottom corner. This takes me to an endless loop of saving "somewhere in the cloud" and then I get an error.
I was so excited by the possibilities that I showed the app to a number of teachers and now I am embarrassed because it doesn't really work. Sigh..... -
-
Hi Donna, we have had more recent issues with the error 2 that have made this a more common and bigger issue that at the top of this post (see my comment above yours). Our apologies and we are working hard to fix the situation.
-
-
Very strange. I tried again.....and it works. Once it has uploaded to the "cloud" (and I hope it is your cloud and not mine on the IPAD) I can preview the video and then I have access to the control buttons.
-
-
Thanks for posting another note, Donna on the successful upload. The upload definitely is to our cloud.
-
-
Hi all,
We have resolved SOME of our Error 2 issues. While we have not resolved them all, you should see some improved performance. We are continuing to work on improving how well ScreenChomp works... thank you very much for your patience! -
