Thanks for all the feedback on this very popular feature request everyone!
Today we released several new Snagit accessories, including one for Evernote that allows you to send your capture directly to a new note, optionally with a title and message.
You can download the new Evernote accessory and a profile (Windows only for the profile) to go along with it from the accessory page here: http://www.techsmith.com/snagit-acces...
We were busy this morning and also released new versions of Snagit! Snagit 11 for Windows and Snagit 2 for Mac add GREATLY improved support for video capture and sharing, along with a smattering of other nice new features. For more information or to download a free trial, check out http://www.techsmith.com/snagit.html

Here's a way to do it with Snagit for Windows using Evernote's built in scripting capability and Snagit's Program Output :
Snagit's Program Output allows you to send a capture to any program that accepts an image filename on the command line.
To setup Evernote as a Program Output:
1. Using Notepad, create a file called c:\Users\Public\FromSnagit.txt
- For the contents of the file, just have a single line of text : From Snagit
- On XP, you probably won't have a \Users\Public directory, use another directory
- Evernote's ENScript.exe requires a .txt file as input
2. In the Send tab of Snagit Editor, you will find the Program Output, Click the panel options button to access the Program Output Settings:
http://screencast.com/t/WD3uFgzO
3. Now select the the "Program" Tab, click Add, and use the following settings:
http://screencast.com/t/jJL5soxreWrn
Executable to Run : Locate your ENScript.exe which is in your Evernote install directory
Display Name : Evernote
Parameters : createNote /s C:\Users\Public\FromSnagit.txt /a ""
More Info on Evernote's ENScript.exe :
http://www.evernote.com/about/develop...
That's it, now you can send an image to Evernote by clicking on the Program Output and selecting Evernote.
Another idea to try with the Snagit Program Output would be to setup a profile in Snagit to automatically send to Evernote.- view 3 more comments

I vote for this, too. And Dropbox output as well.
The scripting option is beyond my capabilities.

Indeed, an Evernote output for Snagit would be most welcome. The Windows-solution (see above) works well, but how about the Mac version of Snagit?
-
-
A quick way to do this in Snagit for Mac:
If you have Evernote in your dock, you can drag any image from the Snagit tray and drop it on the Evernote icon in the dock. This will create a new note within Evernote even if Evernote isn't running.
As shown here: http://screencast.com/t/yp36BkIkk9Vm -

A limited hand-rolled solution is nice, but not the same as an in-product solution.
Techsmith could even hook into Evernotes OCR and recognize text from images or allow organizing by note folders dates etc. -

I recently set up a custom profile in Snagit Windows that saves the screen capture to an Evernote "watch folder" on my hard drive. Anything in that folder gets pulled into a "snags" notebook in Evernote.
Not as elegant as a Snagit Evernote output would be...but another workaround that might be helpful to some. -
-
I use evernote all the time, but never thought to use it with Snagit. I am curious, why do folks want an evernote output? What problem would this solve?
-
Problems Solved?
Let me begin to count the ways:
1/ in my experience, many of the SnagIt captures are placed in Evernote; and many are done so AFTER they are modified by SnagIt; 2/ unnecessary steps to take SnagIt capture:, open Evernote, create note, paste capture, and so on. SnagIt output would cut this down to one, maybe two steps; 3/ there would be no need to use Evernote’s own fine, yet simple and limited, clipping function; 4/ there’s a SnagIt output for OneNote (a product which is an inferior and infinitely less used Evernote competitor) which suggests, TS has relationship with MS it doesn’t have with Evernote; 5/ Evernote has functional relationships with tons of superb companies, TechSmith should be one of them; and 6/ many iOS apps routinely have Evernote as a baked in, one step, output destination.
PS: I am a longtime ( > 5 years) and frequent (obsessive) user of SnagIt. There is not a day goes by that I don’t use SnagIt. (I can barely use a computer that doesn’t have SnagIt installed.) I have promoted SnagIt with friends, family and colleagues for years! My commitment to SnagIt (and of course to the brilliant TechSmith folks) is unquestioned. This is the ONLY pet peeve I have with SnagIt/TechSmith (Oh, one more: not having vertical/horizontal rulers in SnagIt Editor).
PS2: Full disclosure ... I have no relationship with Evernote, other than as a frequent user of its product.

When working on some projects / presentations it's very useful to be able to take select screen caps into Evernote. The easier this is the better.
Note that the idea of a watch folder is really good, but wouldn't be useful to me because I would want to do it only with the occasional file. -
-
surprised someone hasnt jumped on this as there is a laundry list of direct outputs
http://www.techsmith.com/snagit/acces...
I use screencast, flickr, skype ALL the time.
Agree w. the above, I use snagit everyday. -
-
I second all these emotions. Snagit and Evernote should be married through some integrated connection. They are two of the most used apps I have. I make notes all day long. Often those needs need images of things, excerpts, etc. It's clunky to save the SnagIt image to a Temp directory and then go to EN and import it into the note. It's just a hassle.

I have been using SnagIt for something like 10 years. In the past if I came across something of interest, I would use Snagit to clip something from a web page, document or screen and use the history function in SnagIt to review it later.
I have become a total convert to Evernote to help manage my workflow. To make the same capture and throw it to a titled, tagged and dated Evernote note would be powerful.
Yes, I have seen the workarounds, but this really needs to be native to SnagIt.

SnagIt output direct to Evernote. -

I work on several machines on different networks, being able to centralise an ever increasing snagit image gallery into evernote as a native export would be very useful for portability.
-
This is precisely what I am talking about. I do the same thing. SnagIt is on every machine I roam to. Evernote then makes sure that the images would be available wherever I am.

@spaggie, Obviously not for everyone... but I use Dropbox and Evernote. For Snagit, I have it dump saved snags into a folder within my Dropbox shared folder. I currently do not send them to Evernote. Sadly, I get more use from Dropbox than Evernote for most things.
I wish Dropbox and Evernote would join forces. Or, maybe I don't "get it" or something. -
-
@delliquadri good point, but this is about Snagit and Evernote, not Snagit, Evernote and DropBox (are they still insecure with it's config.db file). I have a home server that's pretty much 100% uptime, I could set up an ftp folder shortcut for the snagit clip file to this on every machine I use and centralise to a machine I completely admin.
It would just be another load of admin I can't be bothered with, also it wouldn't have the synchronisation to offline I find useful on my commute -
-
You Can do this. Just use create new profile in snagit, using the wizard. In the output options choose program, this will automatically populate with Paint (I assume, it did on mine) then click on the properties button to the right of this. This will bring up a window where you can add different programs. Choose evernote.exe as the executable. Then select evernote and click OK. I found that Paint would still be displayed in the Output options, but click properties again, then OK and it changes to Evernote. You can then use this profile to clip to evernote.

Hi, that's exactly where the confusion is. I don't want to have to transit through some wierdy sideways custom profile malarky. I want a notebook in Evernote to be the Snagit image directory. I want to use snagit in exactly the same way as I always do but I want all and every screen capture to be clouded into my evernote account so I can pick it up everywhere, even the ones I didn't think I needed before I changed machines (read: went home).
Snagit natively export screen captures into an Evernote Notebook
At the moment this is tricky because Snagit stores images in a non-standard format as far as I can see. I could hook these files to snagit but it would then require snagit to be on the other machines
or something
We're not talking here about a shonky patch you through custom profile, we're talking about Snagit actually properly talking to evernote. no extra clicks, it's just *there*
Thanks for your time though -

Native export not some work-around jump through custom hoops.

I agree with Shaan wholeheartedly! As sophisticated as Techsmith is, they ought to be able to take care of this in about a day!

I commented earlier about using Dropbox in a similar vein as I would Evernote. After seeing some of these recent comments it made me think there HAS to be a way in Evernote to replicate what I do with Dropbox... and there seems to be.
https://support.evernote.com/link/por...
I may switch to this. So, you setup that and then change your Snagit "Save to" folder to this auto-import folder.
I see someone talking about the non-standard format that Snagit initially captures to. That is fine with me. I actually like that it does that and stores it some place else. That gives me the opportunity then to, with 2 clicks, save the non-standard file into the default save-to folder when I really want the screenshot shared to dropbox/evernote.
Hmmm, I bet I can create the Evernote auto-import folder INSIDE my Dropbox folder. Now I'm just getting crazy.-
''I see someone talking about the non-standard format that Snagit initially captures to. That is fine with me.''
You don't use Evernote web interface much then? -
-
-
-
-
The auto import folder option is close, but no cigar. My wish would be a native "Send" option that would pop a dialog for Title, notebook and tags.
-
-
I've used Snagit for a few years and find it to be like my right hand man when trying to explain thing to people by email. The functionality is astounding.
However, I'm starting to find the inbuilt Evernote screengrab suffices for most things to the point where I'm stopping snagit from running on windows startup.
I'm feeling drawn to the day when I uninstall snagit and rely totally on Evernotes inbuilt screen snipping tool.
It'll be sad to not have all the cool things Snagit can do, but there's one thing it can't do which I really need. -
-
-
Wow, TechSmith... Really? Requests for a direct to Evernote output have been out for 18 months or more and still nothing?
Please add this! I use both all day long and this would be a huge help. Thanks! -
-
Dropbox would be easier if Snagit let me control the
C:\Users\\AppData\Local\TechSmith\Snagit\DataStore
location, I could then just place this folder inside dropbox folders
Dropbox are talking about 'watch any folder' which will fix this from the other side (http://www.dropbox.com/help/12)
Evernote has an import folders function, but it looks read only, so I can add
C:\Users\\AppData\Local\TechSmith\Snagit\DataStore
and these files will get pushed to the evernote server, but evenote then seems to keep the files within, it doesn't write back, so that's no use
I'm thinking that making the directory location
C:\Users\\AppData\Local\TechSmith\Snagit\DataStore
a shortcut to a dropbox controlled file might be a quick fix
But I'm struggling with evernote
Hope someone can join me in figuring this out without Techsmith -
-
Wow! Such confusion. Just follow Paul Stillwell's instructions to export Snags directly to the Evernote executable and Bingo, it's done. I don't know what all of the discussion about format is either. I simply click on Send To/Evernote and there it is as an image. And a few minutes later (with a Premium Evernote account) the text in the image is searchable.
But I would like to see an Evernote button similar to OneNote, Word, Skype, etc. That would eliminate several mouse clicks. -
-
And when you use Snagit on your second (third fourth or fifth) machine, you're snags are in the editor already?
-
-
No, they're in Evernote. But on the rare occasion that I needed to re-edit a snag on one of my other eight machines I can copy the image from Evernote and paste it into SnagIt if I'm not on the machine where I originally Snaged It.

what would be great is if Techsmith didn't hardwire the Snagit working directory and made it a user setting so we could place it wherever we wanted.
Then everyone could almost do everything (excepting use Evernote web interface to see images proper)
It's really strange they've hardcoded the working directory in the exe or the registry or somewhere -
-
You can change it but it's a pain to do it. I agree with you though. Your snags need to be in My Documents; that's what I backup most agreessively.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for listening and deving this
I've downloaded the profile and the output tool but still can't understand how to make it work.
When I select the Share to Evernote profile I get a 'unable to output screen capture' message
Thanks-
Hi Felix,
Couple questions:
1) What version of Snagit did you try it in?
2) Do you have .NET 3.5 or greater installed?
3) Were you sending to Evernote locally, or were you logged in to your Evernote account? (You can enter your Evernote credentials by going to Tools > Open Accessories Manager... > Evernote Output, and clicking Options)
Thanks,
Chris -
-
Also, just to make sure, the Evernote profile and the Evernote output are two separate things to download and install from the accessories page. Did you download and install both?
-

-
-
-
Hi Chris
Downloaded them both from the add ins page
Windows 7 64bit running SnagIt 10.0.1 Build 58 Mar 21
I think I'm running .Net 4 with all MS update applied
Was set in Tools > Open Accessories Manager... > Evernote Output, and clicking Options to 'Save Locally' and a relevent folder selected (it pulled my folders list ok) = 'Unable to output screen capture'
Changed to 'send to my Evernote Account' with username and password (folder list loaded ok) = 'Unable to output screen capture'
probably me doing something wrong?- view 1 more comment

Hi,
so I let it all settle for a day, did some resets and everything. Just did a test and it's working!
great work guys
Now if I could just set the snagit working directory into a dropbox folder

... or any other (more sensible) directory of the user's choosing!!!
Please do this. Most people back up their My Documents folders; not the Applications folders or where ever else the Snags are hiding. This is just convention and good practice. -

Hi,
I've been using this for a couple of weeks.
Initially it seemed to do what it said it would do
But I've gotten into some kind of spiral where images are going 'missing'
I've set up to push captures into an evernote folder, but have preview in snagit editor selected
These two things seem to upset each other
Images do not appear in evernote
There's a message that comes up on machine shutdown asking what to do with unsaved images, this is irksome, but it seems this is the queue to evernote?
JUST SAVE THEM ALREADY-
Hi Felix,
If you've configured a profile to both send to evernote and preview in editor, there is a "Finish Profile" button with a green check mark in editor that you need to click to "finish" the profile, i.e. send it to evernote.
We currently don't have a straight-forward way to send to both the editor and another destination without clicking "Finish Profile". There is a workaround that may meet your needs if that's what you're looking for: http://screencast.com/t/hHAVc8EcW (In the video substitute Evernote for clipboard, and Felix for Marty :))
There is also a setting in the Editor Options > Advanced to automatically save captures. This may be unchecked for you causing the message you mention when shutting down.
Please let me know if any of these suggestions help you out, or if you're still seeing an issue.
Thanks,
Chris -

Hi Felix,
When you have the option to preview in editor on, Snagit doesn't immediately share to Evernote. The idea is, presumably you would want to make some edits to your capture before sending it on to your destination. In order to complete the share process you can press the "Finish Profile" button on either the "Draw" or "Share" tab as seen here: http://screencast.com/t/5yQrH5QTXbp.
Alternatively, if you don't want to preview in the Snagit Editor before sharing, you can turn that option off here: http://screencast.com/t/Z8ncWC5GVc.
I hope this helps out, and thanks for taking the time to share your feedback!
