1Today we released Snagit for Mac 2.1.2. Snagit 2.1.2 has been optimized for capturing and editing on the Retina display.
Snagit 2.1.2 is currently only available to non-AppStore customers. It will be available to AppStore customers as soon as it is approved by Apple. -
Hello Everyone,

2Hello Everyone,
I wanted to give an update with where we are in regards to retina support for Snagit and Jing. Recently, I mentioned us having a solution in its final stages of testing. Testing revealed some issues with our solution that will require some more time from development.
We feel everyone's pain about not being able to use Snagit to accomplish your daily tasks. Today we released 2.1.1, via normal update channels, which provides improvements that will allow everyone to get back up and running.
The difference between 2.1.1 and the release we are still working on is that today's release does not fully embrace the retina screen. Snagit will capture pixel for pixel what you have selected in your region, but when the editor is on a retina screen, it will show your capture at double its size. This only occurs in editor, and does not occur when sharing or saving your captures. The Snagit team's current top priority is getting Snagit for Mac to fully embrace the Macbook Pro with Retina display.
In regards to Jing, we currently have a build in testing that works similar to how Snagit 2.1.1 functions: pixel for pixel capture and doubling of the image size only in the editor.
Cheers,
Carmen

It does not work for me either. You released an update to 2.1 and no fix? C'mon now.

Hi Everyone,
We are in the process of fixing a host of bugs related to the new Retina Macbook Pros and Snagit. We certainly apologize for the trouble with Snagit. We're anxious to get the serious problems fixed as soon as possible.
Thanks for your patience, we will keep you updated.

Hello Borya, Yes, the plan is to fix Jing too.

I have been using version 1.0.4 without any problems until I purchased my retina mac. I figured the software was old and needed to be upgraded to fix the problem. When I upgraded last night the new version, 2.1, I had the exact same problem. I had to cancel my upgrade and revert to my previous version. I ordered my Mac on June 20th and received it a few weeks ago. Your product has been one that I use daily. Do you have an idea as to when you will fix it?

1Hi Everyone,
We are hoping to have an update with a number of Retina display bugs fixed in the next week or so. The team is eager to get Snagit up and running again for you all.
Thanks,
Jason-
Should we assume it will be auto update or a special dl ?
thanks for update- -

Would love to have a timeline on this. I've had the retina macbook for over a month now and while it's great to hear that you are aware of the issue and working on it, if the ends up being another 2+ weeks, I'll need to find something else as two months with no screen clipping is very difficult.
Jason- do you have a ballpark on this release date?-
OMG--- the lead developer JUST said FOUR hours ago
"the next week or so" -

My bad- not sure how I missed his comment. Just saw the other comments from him without a date as well as other posts asking the same thing. Glad to hear it's within the next week.

I like the rest of you have been very frustrated by how long it is taking to fix this VERY severe problem. I hate to say it but I had to look elsewhere for a solution to this problem and the solution was right under my nose. All of you frustrated individuals take a look at this solution, http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/scre...
It works perfectly with the retina MacBook Pro.
Rich-
solution works in a pinch. Please hurry and get this fixed.

You guys need to push this out ASAP. I understand there is development time involved but a week might as well be a year for me.

Snagit does not work on the new Apple macbook Pro with Retina. When capture, the image is blown up ~2x and makes Snagit useless. This is killing me so let me know when this will get fixed with a patch.

Hi!
Since you're at it, please include the auto-trim feature as found in the Windows vewrsion. It does not make sense NOT to have it already. Thanks in advance...-
Hi,
I have great news! Snagit 2.0 introduced "Trim", which has the same functionality as the Windows equivalent. It is listed in the "Edit" menu as see here: http://screencast.com/t/rVkOT6u0TB
I hope this helps out :)

And another while your at it - I have Snagit for Windows. Could use the text capture functionality as well in Snagit for Mac. Very disappointed in the Mac version.

how do I get this update? I installed snagit via the mac appstore and I don't see an update there?

I apologize. I forgot to mention in my original post that we are still in review for the App Store. We are hoping to get approved soon. The wait times for the App Store have sky rocketed as of late.

Nice to see that you're reacting to your audience. Just upgraded to 2.1. It a big (and a little late) step forward. Could you please bring the auto-trim feature like you have it in the Windows version (not just "trim" manually afterwards... The real thing that can save users time (& money)). Thanks in advance...

Carmen, you do not know how much you saved me on the new patch even through it not 100% (actually 200%). THANKS...
-

Here is what I did to make it normal size-
Edit>resize image>reset
then resize the width (lock ratio) (and height) to 50% -
-
dkaleky, when you say normal size, do you mean normal size in the editor or when you share and save?

this is it ? we have to use another capture plugin to forget a 50$ software ?
we need a solution, i used it daily, and now i have a big problem with this, we have to be refunded- view 4 more comments

Hi Maxime,
One possibility in the interim would be to download the 30 day trial of Snagit 2.1.1 here http://www.techsmith.com/download/sna.... Once the app store version has been approved, you could then uninstall the non-App Store version.
Thanks,

I do not have a time frame that I can share. However, we have completed a lot of the development and it's currently in testing. The last thing we have to wrap up from a development perspective are the effects.

Hello,
While most of this thread talks about Snagit and retina, there were some questions about Jing. The Jing update just came out (August 21, 2012).
It should be prompting you to update within the next 24 hours. You can also force the update manually by clicking More > Help > Check for update. (Screenshot: http://www.screencast.com/t/2G454Df3 )
Thanks for using Jing!
Mike Curtis-
Jing 2.6.68622 is that it ?
If it is-- it doesnt work properly on Retina. -

We released it, but had to pull it for a bug where the annotation wasn't staying on the image. The developers worked to fix and text the bug, and we should be releasing the retina version again any moment.
I'm sorry I overlooked this thread and didn't update it with the news of the release and its near immediate recall. I would try a manual update in about an hour.
I'll keep this thread up and post any news as it comes in.
Sorry for the confusion,
Mike Curtis -
