We released an optional "Beta view" when you sign in to Screencast.com. We hope the new workflow makes it easier for you to find, manage, and share your content. While we still have more work to do, you will likely notice a snappier performance and a more efficient and consistent workflow.
Give it a try and let us know what you think so far. Thanks!

What do you think of the new Screencast.com beta features and interface?

Love the look have a problem with View all Items and Videos in show me left tabThey don't display anything
On a OS10.6 and safari -

I've not noticed too much difference on functionality but playback performance for at least my posts has been poor, for the last few weeks.
I've tried encoding in several formats, but can't get smooth playback.-
We've not changed anything related to performance. I'm not sure why performance could be degraded, but we should learn more about your encode settings. Are you doing MP4? What dimensions and bitrate? Our support team can probably help you the best. http://support.techsmith.com

Not to be too pick, but it's not the most attractive interface. However, it definitely has features that I really wanted. For example, the ability to easily move videos anywhere without being forced to drag them to relocate is very helpful. Also I like the show me all.
I just ran into an issue where I selected a video to delete and it showed an error: "Unable to delete content. Please try again or contact Screencast Support".

Yea I know Jing works that why and that's why I was confused that my Mac version of Camtasia 1.2 didn't include that feature. Thanks for passing that along.

+1 to this feature request. :-)

Love the new navigation and sorting options. This is a really really nice experience. Conversely, the view you get when looking at images in a playlist, is just nasty, as shown here: http://screencast.com/t/mE7yOAQsx . It also appears that the ability to manage the list of playlists was omitted. Once I've created a playlist, I can't rename it, can't delete it - it's there FOREVER! Hehe, not a huge deal, but definitely looks like an oversight.
Overall, great work, and personally, I like all that orange - it's uniquely jarring!-
Love your Jing video! Thanks for the honest feedback! Yeah, we probably should have better pointed out that Playlist functionality (or lack thereof) has not been addressed in this beta release. I'd recommend using the "old view" for all your playlist creation, deletion and management. We'll pound on those playlists for next time.

When I click on All items (Video, or Images, or Other) it shows none, a blank screen on the right.

I'm using FireFox. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi friends, I still miss a detailed statistics panel that could give detaill of views, downloads etc. by month, by file, by folder.... very customizable. I also would like to have shorter and more usable links system.
I use screencast mainly for hosting my podcast files, linked in other sites and not for playing directly in screencast.com. Maybe that is my mistake
I also would like to use my screencast acount o leave this feedback but it seems is not enabled -
-
Much, much, much better than the old look and feel. Keep it going
-
-
I cannot open some of my folders and I cannot exit beta view.
-
-
I like the new look and feel. Q. I have is that the system sorted several videos in an "other" category. Don't know why. I believe all of my uploaded videos are the same format - flash.
-
-
I have not been using Screencast that much, mostly if I "had to" because of uploading in SnagIt (mac).
Now it feels quite a lot better - it's so much easier to find files and work with them.
BUT - I still miss a button to upload a capture to flickr with SnagIt Mac!!! -
-
absolute first impression--haven't dug in yet--is like the look, like the idea of playlists, but when I click on videos, for example, or a folder name--nothing happens. I thought I'd be able to see what was in there and move it around.
-
-
Okay--I watched the video about how it is supposed to look and work and it looks great. Only problem is that it doesn't work. NONE of my content shows, just the folder list on the left and the whole screen is otherwise blank. I am using Firefox 4 on a PC.
-
-
I like the basic concept, but definitely miss the list view where I could scan through the number of views for all items in a folder. Will these details be accessible without having to hover over each individual item?
-
-
definitely a very positive step in the right direction. doesn't address the major IA, user/content authentication, and playlist issues, but adds some nice capabilities insofar as basic management of what's there (delete, move, search etc.). the interface approach is much better.
-
-
Great to see everything organized! Thanks!
I look forward to playing around with it a bit more! -
-
Great Presentation. I have been wanting to move videos and folders around, and this makes that job so much easier. Easy to use with simple navigation.. like it a lot. Brilliant work!
-
-
I am having the same issue as a few people here...and the problem is we cant leave the beta view.
This is got to be fix asap. -
-
same here on all my m/c windows macs can not get out of the beta view no folders show...........
-
-
I like the GUI and the functionalities a lot, but "All items" and "Videos" is empty though there should be 21 items.
Thanx for fixing this! :o) -

This is the reply I got from support and it worked:
In Internet Explorer, you can add those places as, "Trusted Sites" which Windows will use in your other browsers as well.
With IE open use the following steps:
- Go to the Tools menu
- Internet Options
- Switch to the Security tab
- Make sure the Trusted Sites check mark is selected, then click the Sites button
- Add the following:
http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com
http://ajax.microsoft.com
http://s3.amazonaws.com
https://*.screencast.com
Then you can Close this dialog box, Internet Options, and Internet Explorer.
Now retry loading the page in Firefox or Chrome. -

I think the new interface is great, very easy and intuitive to use and the search function is a big help. There are two comments / suggestions I would make.
#1 The folder view on the left is difficult to navigate due to only the first part of the folder name being visible. I know that I can hold the cursor over the folder to see the full name and that helps but it is still difficult to easily scroll straight to a given folder. I suggest making it possible to widen the left hand column or making the folder name wrap so that the full name can be observed.
#2 Nested folders / sub-folders are a must. I have seen the comments regarding the security issue with that but would suggest that a compromise of simply making every folder have it's own individual security setting should be doable - there is no need to have inherited security of folders. Just treat the folders as an organization view even allowing the same video to be in more than one folder - rather like the way "collections" work in Google Docs. Without the ability to have sub-folders it is VERY difficult to organized and manage large quantities of videos and related resources.-
Thank you for this great and thorough feedback. You offer some nice possible solutions!

Great! nice clean easy to use, logical layout
It might be nice to see the usage and bandwidth bars on the main page rather than having to click the account menu option to see them. Also a way to trigger a notification say when the bandwidth or usage gets to 90%...

Like it much better than the old one. Good improvement. I would also like the possibility to copy a file or to duplicate it to a different folder.
Now the only option I have is to upload it again.
Cheers,

Was pleased to have all my videos organized in folders, as I had 79. Only problem, when I went to the websites where they were posted, they'd disappeared. AND they did not reappear when I reverted to the old version. Please help; I'm in the middle of launching a new product using these videos !!! PLUS, I have several other clients whose videos are posted here.
-
Hi Secure, sorry to hear this. I saw your other post as well, and I am sure support and the developers will be investigating and may contact you asking for more details.

A great improvement.
1. Is there a way to delete folders? cant find
2. Why not shorten the screen cast URL even more...it is currently 28 characters. Google has theirs down to 10 with goo.gl. their urls are almost 1/3 your size...28 is still too long.-
Hi Frisky,
I can see how it's a little hidden, but here's how you can delete a folder: http://screencast.com/t/4UlcPTrH
Good question about the URL. While the random part offers more security via obscurity, the "screencast.com" part is pretty long, and I suppose not everyone cares about having such a lengthy random part. -
-
Tnx, Mr. Mike; it's good enough - the delete - even though it's (kinda) not intuitive. :$

For those that may have the problem about not seeing content or not being able to leave the beta, there is a comprehensive post and solution here: http://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmi...

We would really like for sub-folders to be created as well. It would help us out, and make this probably the best resource on the market. Positive note, I really do enjoy the new setup.
-
-
Interesting design, and I generally am OK with it, but I prefer simpler/more efficient designs in general. The mouse-over details window is a wee bit of "fluffy" overkill; I like the simpler details view that just simply shows off to the right of each video. Also, in the older interface, I can see all of the details for my videos in a folder at one time as opposed to mousing over each one one at a time.
I also notice that the new interface's response/performance is a bit more sluggish. The older interface seems to respond a bit more quickly/snappily.
So, the new one is OK, but I am not seeing enough real-deal improvements IMO to justify the new design. Again, I go for simplicity and speed of response/operation.
Thanks for listening! -

- Please enable renaming and deleting playlists as an option.
- Allow the option of deleting files straight from the file
- Enable the creation of Sub-Folders
- Enable the ability to give different user rights to specific folders and multiple logins.
- Restore the ability to get the share code from the videos itself like on the old version.
Please bring back the sort by Date or enable a details view -
-
@ Byron thanks for another vote for subfolders and kind words.
@ Douglas, it concerns us that you report it's more sluggish. Do you think it's a specific activity like opening a folder or maybe moving content that's sticking out to you? We've been getting a fair bit of feedback about people missing the details view. Thanks for posting.
@ Anibal We'll do something about the playlists--that didn't make it into this phase so I'd use the "old" way for playlists for now. What does deleting files straight from the file mean? Can you elaborate a bit? Thanks for all your comments. To be sure we understand, in point 5, about the old way of sharing, do you mean how you could hover and click the little 3-pronged icon to bring up the share fields?-
-The old interface has an option that allows you to hover over a file, select it and then you saw the garbage icon (delete) and 3-pronged share icon under the file.

I like the old view, with the details available. But, the Beta operates fine for me.
-
-
Love the look and navigation. Much easier and cleaner. I've taken advantage of features that were always there but had not found them before. Nice job.
Request: More personalization of the page themes. For instance, for the playlist, I would like to show the graphic, title and description in a vertical grid so that it is easier to read. Right now the thumbnails are too limiting. I want to put my colors, logo and contact information as well.
Great start but I need to see more to continue using the service.

I love the new beta view!
Question- how do I (or can I) get the beta view to be the default view for the general public? I want everyone to see the new view because it appears to be easier for them to search my collection of videos here:
http://www.screencast.com/users/RobZd...
Is this possible yet? -
-
I do like the new look but not happy with the pop up information box every time you tick a file selection box. Have reverted back to the old look for less stress.
-
Hi Kenneth, thanks for the feedback. I think we'll do some reworking on this.
-
-
-
-
-
Here is what I would like to change with the new UI of Screencast.com http://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmi...
-
-
Not easy to see how to see folders so that you can change Privacy settings on the folder.
-
-
I would've liked it more if it included sub-folders. The look of the Beta version is nice though! Upgrade us to subfolders, pleeeaasse.
-
-
I love the new functionality but a vital thing that needs to be put back in is the ability to 1-click share. Before I could mouse over and click the share button but now I have to click the check-box and then click on the share button above.
Actually I would love to be able to mouse over and click a button to automatically copy the URL for the video into my clipboard. That would be ideal.
I would also like a one-click solution for displaying all the videos in a folder at once instead of having to click "show more" "show more" "show more".
Thanks for listening! -
-
I'm pretty new to Screencast, so I didn't really work in the old environment, but Beta is so user friendly (and the user side is so user friendly) that we're considering moving all our training materials for a particular workspace here!
However, because this is intended to primarily be a video medium, we're testing whether users will be off-put by how PDFs are presented. What's visible to the end user with static documents can look like an error at first glance and we all know how terrible people generally are at reading instructions when things don't look the way they want.
Also, I really wish that Screencast offered file versioning or replacement options since an existing URL cannot be transferred to a newly uploaded file. Maybe it's just because I'm new to the environment or the world of training in general, but I (and most folks I work with) always find a need to reorganize as projects/materials change and expand.
As others have mentioned, subfolders would be really helpful too. Oh, and could someone clue me in...how do I delete folders or playlists in beta if I don't want them? And how do I organize the order of videos on playlists?
Thanks for a great service. I look forward to seeing you incorporate everyone's feedback! -
-
I like the new look. It looks neat and orderly than the first layout. So user-friendly too. I'm glad you've thought of changing the layout because the old is totally a mess IMHO. :)
-
-
Needs SHOW ALL button. it sucks to press LOAD MORE 10 times in a row to find a picture, CLICK on it, expand it and when you return it is shrinked it all again.
When you open folder settings it would be nice that when you press save the panel would move back up OR to have CLOSE (X) sign in upper right, hard to spot the Folder button on the bottom left. it blends with images.
Sort by must have OLDEST next to NEWEST.
over all - great job.
Thanks, -
-

This is awesome really like being able to search all folders for a video!
Probably a bit of topic but I have been having a problem with menus hiding behind the videos when I embed to my site.
By adding
into the paramaters of the video code problem is fixed.
Using Joomla site
you guys are doing a great job
Thanks

Great look/feel. Here's what doesn't work today: Desktop uploader. Browse uploader (within web browser). Jing uploader. Deletions don't work.
-
-
I like it overall, however, I wish there was more room under the thumbnails to show the entire name of the files. The Details view is somewhat better once you have expanded each selection, and I really like the quick access to details in that view.

I can't find away to manage playlists, they are created automatically when I share password protected content and when I click the try and manage them, they start playing - no way to not autostart. If you hurry you can just catch the Manage button before the playing to delete the seemingly public playlist. It took 5 starts & misses before i click the manage button. waste of time.
I switched back.
I love jing and I love camtasia Studio & the non-beta library.
Mac with FF6. -

I think you might need a UX person, there are to many steps to get to certain "dialogs" (ie: privacy)... and does it really need to be it's own tab? :)
I think there should be an icon representing the current state, that drops down a list of public, hidden, password, etc. Just a thought ;)
Something to think about! -
-
I really would like a sub folder option in screencast. Sub folders have been around for a long while...and im uncertain what it would take to get them into your architecture...but im quite frustrated that everything I have to do requires a new separate folder and not a sub-folder. Could you guys consider building a subfolder.?
Are there some brain bender issues that you know about...that i dont...that might make this hard for you to do?
Thanks
Suzzie -
-
Positive - I found it easier to navigate and do mass-copying etc.
Negative - I can't figure out, how I can share hidden Playlists in beta version. In old version I just click on share and I have a huge menu of options - link, embed, Mediaroll (my favorite). It looks like that in beta version hidden lists can't be shared anymore and even for public lists mediaroll and embed are either gone or not easy to find (I couldn't) -
-
Leshchinckii,
Thank you for the feedback! Here's how you can get the MediaRoll code: http://screencast.com/t/qsnh3VeZ I can see how that is more hidden than the previous interface.
Thanks again, and I hope you'll keep the feedback coming!
