We released an optional "Beta view" when you sign in to Screencast.com. We hope the new workflow makes it easier for you to find, manage, and share your content. While we still have more work to do, you will likely notice a snappier performance and a more efficient and consistent workflow.
Give it a try and let us know what you think so far. Thanks!

What do you think of the new Screencast.com beta features and interface?

Mike,
It's good to know that this feature is enable for newly created lists!
I don't see a similar icon for my pre-existing lists: Picture of my screenshot.
Thanks, Dima -

Just switched to Beta - terrific look. Much more user friendly.

Add an option to have the Title of the video appear in large type above the video area. Right now the Title appears inside the detail section below the video. Title helps the user know which video they selected and are currently viewing.
-
-
Include the share link in the file list (currently shows bandwidth, title, upload date, file type, etc.) Reason - I have to pull up each video one at a time, click Share to find the share link in order to copy-paste to my website, and I have to do this for dozens of videos at a time.
-
Good idea. That makes a lot of sense... Thanks!

Provide an enlargement of the thumbnail with a mouse rollover, and/or automatically open a thumbnail in another tab. Reason being if I want to clean up and delete it will speed up process

Hello, am a new user to most of the medias in screencast.com. Should I wait on the beta and begin with the "old"? Am game on either way but what are your recommendations? Thanks

Enjoying the ability to create a Jing training library for the staff I work with, but the ability for end users to search within a folder would be beneficial. We plan on having well over 100 videos and would love a keyword search function instead of having to scroll.

Not very functional - creating a new folder was not intuitive, and once creating it, adjusting privacy required switching tabs and they various options were only listed under a drop down menu with no explanation - old UI had all options listed as well as explanations. New way has more steps and is too visually busy - finding and managing using icons is much more confusing and harder to find things - lists are easier, quicker and more intuitive. Don't be seduced by pretty little icons! It's harder to work that way!

I like it.
I've noticed that when I look at videos, the screencast banner across the top gives me breadcrumbs and a link to return to my main view. However, when I look at images, the banner disappears and I have to use the Back button of the browser. If it's just one or two images, no big deal. But if I've looked at a bunch of images, it can take a while.
Further thought: It doesn't seem to be about images, it seems to be about the Snagit folder. If I put either an image or a video captured with Snagit into a folder named Snagit (which I created, by the way), the screen displays as described above. In fact, I'll add an image here that illustrates the difference in interface. I am fine with the look for a viewer, but for me as manager, I'd like to be able to get back to my folders quickly (and consistently).

The button to edit the details of uploaded content was too difficult to find. I expected it to be in the top bar, which contains buttons with action items. It seemed unintuitive for me to be able to edit content under "view:"
The left folder hierarchy could use more breathing space as well; it feels cluttered to me. -
-
just a little bit easier but not enough yet try find more better!
but whater my opinion may be know that a step ahead is always a good think ! just keep on !!!

Last night when I was playing uploaded videos, a thumbnail scroll area popped up on the left half of the screen, making the viewing window smaller (until I moved my pointer back and forth a few times). I went to take a pic of it this morning and it's gone. Was that just a fluke? I really hope so because it ruins the viewing experience.

Grabbing the share video information takes a couple extra steps, having to check a video then click share isn't as fast as the original way where we can just place our mouse over a video and get share and edit icons below the video. That and the option to see all of my folders in a grid are probably the two main reasons I do not use the beta view, the "all videos" layout isn't very useful to me, I have way to many videos, and having all of the folders on the left side makes for a long list, which is why I usually use grid view in the original view.

-
I think it would really make things easier if the list of folders is seen also when viewing a video. Navigation would be a breeze

First impression?
it gives me short links.
but I accidentally closed the getting started video and couldn't find it anymore. so I didn't get started. can anyone give me a link? thanks- view 1 more comment

Thanks. I got started anyway, I bet there's a missing video in the page you sent me.
when I first logged into screencast, a window appeared and suggested me a PDF and video. the name of video was "getting started". I red the PDF but missed the video. I cleaned up history and logged in again. but it didn't appear.
by the way. I like the beta. -

Ah, thanks. I bet it was this video. It appears the first time you sign in: http://www.screencast.com/t/OWUxZGMxN

I have searched around and can't find an answer. I'm in my Screencast.com library and I want to download a bunch of my files (videos and pictures) and then delete them from my Screencast.com library.
I can click to select the file and the only options seem to be Share, Delete, or Move To.
There has to be a way, right? Am I missing something very obvious?- view 1 more comment

Hi Barry, You can download content, but only individually. This video should help: http://screencast.com/t/33ejDXtjA

Thanks so much, Mike. That's perfect. I saw that and was thinking I could do them all at once since you have the check box there to select them. Might be something to think about in the future - and I see why you do it. Makes it too easy for guys like me that are using the free 2GBs :) I'm a Jing Pro and had to stop the buck there - I know, I'm a cheapskate. Thanks. Barry

I just purchased a license a couple of weeks ago so I'm still getting the hang of the software. I watched all of the help tutorials on the Techsmith site.
Just a couple of comments:
* I don't understand why i have to quit the program every time I want to close a project and open a new one. You could just add "Close project" option to the File menu.
* When I open a .camrec file, the extra step of having to right-click on it and selecting Add to Timeline at Playhead seems rather dumb, and it's not an intuitive step. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do this -- I thought the Import Media step would do it.
That's all I have for now. Overall I'm happy with the software but the two points above have really stood out to me. -

I'm wondering how long the Beta view will stay in beta? It's been there so long that it's really just an alternate view. I haven't seen any changes made to the beta view, so is it still being worked on?

I do a lot of UI design work. Mostly for industries that have users who are not computer savvy. So I seem to be getting good at simple UI. Here are the things I noticed with the beta UI. Please read this with an open mind, I am not trying to insult anyone, just give my point of view to help the process!
All of these pertain to the "All Items" view, I don't really have any other issues in other areas of UI:
- Expanding an item (to view details). I like this, but the most important thing that I need to do are not there! - Sharing. I kinda know why you did this, because you want people to be able to select multiple items, which is fine, but to share I have to first check the box, then click share. This is a small detail, but not nearly as intuitive as having the sharing button right next to the video. I honestly think you guys can come up with something better, that makes it easy to share quickly and share a playlist.
- When I check an item, I can now no longer click the icon to go to the video, maybe there is a specific reason for this, but it makes no sense and is confusing. If I want to go to a video, I have to uncheck it first.
- When looking at the details (of an expanded item), it seems like some stuff really does not need to be there... Like release date. I am willing to bet that will be set once and forgotten about, why make it front and center? - replace with share button ;)
Gmail is a good example of a similar type of UI. The buttons for actions are at the top. This is fine, but In Gmail I can either delete a single email (when I have the email open), or I can delete a bunch of selected email (when I am looking at inbox). This allows me to delete an email with a single click if I want
(While viewing an email), or select multiple and delete with 2 clicks (in inbox). If gmail were similar to your current approach, you would have to check a box next to the email then click delete rather than just clicking delete with the email open.
This is of course a side effect of the idea of "expanding" an item (which Gmail does not do). Sorry, that this is not the best analogy, but hopefully sheds a little light on what I mean.
Sorry again if this sounds a little rude, these are just things I would try to resolve if I was designing the UI. I like what you guys are doing! -

I can't find a way to delete a folder from the new Library view?

Hi, I think this screenshot will help Claus: http://screencast.com/t/Wc7jx1vu6

Thanks Mike! Sorry to say but that isn't very intuitive UX :)

When I view items in "Tile" view, the titles of the videos are cut off if they are more than two lines long. In addition, after checking the box to select an item and then completing an action (like "Sharing"), I would prefer the video then be un-checked. I don't like all the checking and unchecking I have to do.

Is this beta ever coming to an end? Is anyone working on this? There are some specific, easy to fix, problems with the beta but I cannot tell if someone will pay attention to comments.

First impression is Very Nice! I have only just started using Jing/Screencast, and it helps to have the left panel there to let me see what's in what folder, and what folders I have.

PLEASE LET ME EDIT MY VIDEOS!!
I want to be able to edit my videos from the new library view - so I can share the download link with viewers.
Thank you!
Ryan
PS. Otherwise looks awesome! Filtering / searching really helps me! -

This is a fantastic improvement. I've hated using screencast.com and avoided going to the site for years because of the UX.
This is what I was looking for. It looks good. -
-
One thing to think about. It's not at all intuitive UX to have a drop down menu for "share", etc. that shows after you put a check in the box of a particular video or image. Might be better to have that submenu show when you hover the "upload" button. I don't generally expect to find a share link as a submenu to upload.

Here's how you change the privacy: http://screencast.com/t/Jna2S894
I hope that helps! :)
Mike Curtis
That's too bad, because the classic (old) version allowed to share hidden playlists, which was very convenient if I wanted to share solutions to assignments with only one section.
I'll stick with the old version then. I hope the developers will reconsider and reintroduce sharing of hidden playlists.
Thank you again, Dima
