How do I fix a "Fade" transition that's changing to "fade through black"?

Hi, Using Camtasia Studio 8.5.1. I keep trying to add a "Fade" to all media on one track. Even though it says it is a "Fade", it clearly is adding a "Fade through Black" instead. Have tried multiple different ways. I have made sure there are no spaces between clips.  Is driving me crazy! Could it be related to the fact that I have a clip (on a separate track) which begins with "fade through black"? Maybe it does not like when you combine them? I am at a loss, and cannot move forward with my project.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

the clip w/fade on another track may be the cause

as a test, disable that track; does the issue still persist?

OK; try removing all transitions; carefully examine timeline at ctl-F11 zoom to make sure there are no spaces between clips

try adding 1 fade transition at 1 split; does that work?

can you provide a full screen screenshot of entire project on timeline at ctl-F9 zoom?

Hi, I tried removing, and tested all with other types of transitions, which work fine (but reminds me that "fade" and "fade through black" are pretty much the only ones I will probably ever use - ha!).  I have scrolled through frame by frame at 300% to make sure there is no space.

Add to just one clip does not work either.  Also created new track (in case it was corrupt)and added clips to it again. Am starting to think it might be related to the fact I grouped quite a few clips together  - because I didn't want any transitions between them. That is the only thing I have done differently than before.

Screenshot provided.  It is Track one that is the trouble-maker.  I have removed all Transitions (from Track 1) at this point.  Have also have removed all "Fade through black" from entire project (as another test - no such luck). They are all just 'Fade" transitions now.  Thank you!!

thanks for screenshot

grouping can cause what you are experiencing if a transition is added at a split with a grouped clip

if you open a group, are there any transitions within the start of or end of group?

try un-grouping the groups; that should fix the issue?

I can only reproduce the issue you are seeing if I have a fade transition at beginning or end of a video clip that is within a group

fade transitions at start or end will fade the clip in/out from black [or whatever video background color you have applied in the editing dimensions controls]

Ahhhhh!!  this worked!  I had to remove all my groupings, and just manually delete all Fades within what was previous grouped.  You have really helped me  - thank you!!

It does bum me out that groupings cause such weirdness, though. I cannot think of any good reason for the video background color to come into the transitions within groups. So, definitely a bug, or something they need to re-think.  THANKS AGAIN!  Sara
