I am getting the dreaded "Failed to save document." message. I tried a repair and put the executables as approved apps in Norton and I still have the issue.
Snagit 2018.1.1.9242018
Windows 10 1803 build 17134.345
I also reset all the read properties in My Docs but I still have the issue
Please help, I did read opast posts but did not find a resolution that would work..

You say you "also reset all the read properties in My Docs". But did you ensure you have Write properties?

I just upgraded and am seeing this message as well (alternating with 'Snagit Editor cannot read this file. The file type is not currently supported or the file is invalid.')  Upgraded from 13.

I also tried just before this and was unsuccessful in sharing the output of a capture (captured in 13) to OneNote.  Message was that the selected page couldn't be found.

So it sounds like permissions issues.  I'll reboot later today and see it my issue persists.  If so I'll run it as Administrator and see if that helps.

Snagit 2018.2.2.2240 [enu]
Virtualization: None
Windows 10.0 Build 17134

I haven't rebooted but it appears to have resolved at some point today. I used the Task Manager to remove the editor from memory and then restarted the editor.

I killed the editor and capture executables and set all "My Documents" files to read write permissions and I still have the error.

Is your library pointed to a different location than your My Documents folder?

Hello there Greg Messemer,
Version 2018.1.1  is 3 version updates behind the times. I don't see anything specific to your issue listed.
There are some security updates. I don't know it it could help you or not. From everything I've seen posted on this issue. It seems to be closely tied to antivirus software. So, it seems like the same category anyway.
Aside from that, theres always tech support.

Yes is is different than "My Documents"
I opened the folder specifically and checked it and the permissions are correct.
Here is a screenshot using the MS tool.

Like Joe mentioned, we should probably have you install the latest update to 2018.  Google turned up this thread which appeared to work for a couple of people (https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/_failed_to_save_document_not_because_of_the_antiviru...)

Otherwise I've run out of ideas. :)

@Greg Messemer

I don't know how you run on your computer but if you are using it as a User and Not an Administrator
(Which is the safe way to use your computer)

You might try right-clicking on the Snagit.exe and run as administrator. See if that makes a difference.

If it does than you may have to set the exe to run as administrator in the exe properties.

:)
