My 2018 Snagit was not working properly (It would not record my screen changes). I deleted it and tried to reinstall it. Now, I get an error 1303 the installation has insufficient privileges to access this directory. I've already followed this article and still can't re-download Snagit.https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/203731048-Snagit-Error-1303-The-installer-has-insuff...

Janis, I CANNOT TALK DIRECTLY ABOUT sNAG-IT AND ITS POOR PERFORMANCE AND REINSTALLING ISSUES DIRECTLY, BUT i can tell you how to avoid reinstalling issues, or reducing your efforts with such.

First, create a folder called something like Downloads - if you use the Windows provided 'Downloads' folder, it will be erased if you ever have to reinstall (and perhaps some forms of reloading) Windows, so I suggest creating your own folder outside of the Windows provided folders, say In the root of 'C'. Then create subfolders to identify each software manufacturer. So, for Snag-it that would be a folder named 'TechSmith'. Then whenever you download Snag-it again, put it into that folder, and put the version number as part of the filename when you save it. This is so that if you ever get new versions and save them, they can all be easily identified.Reinstall from this folder. Do this for ALL the software you download from the web to install on your computer whenever you run into similar issues with any other software.

Secondly, get the product from IoBit called 'Uninstaller'. This does a much better job of de-installing ANY software, which means there should be no traces of it left, AND that there should be no issues when reinstalling it.

I use Snag-it 11.4 and I have NO problems!

Have you tried right clicking the exe file and choosing "Run as administrator"?

Yes, I've tried right clicking on the exe and run as administrator. I get the same 1303 error. I've downloaded the IoBit Uninstaller. But, since I've already uninstalled Snagit, it doesn't see it so I can't use the product to uninstall it. :(

Hi Janis,

I'd recommend opening a ticket at https://support.techsmith.com/

You can get some help here from the community, but our official technical support is at that site.

Janis, I see that you are now in a predicament with Snag-it. If you cannot get any of it installed (even with the 1303 error), then Uninstaller will probably not see it. But keep this product for future deinstalls. But there are still things you can try to get over the hump here:

(1) Try installing a different version of Snag-it. If you do not have any others, go to https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions. Your Snag-it keycode may work on a version before your current one. If that installs, then try the version that is failing afterwards. If you still get the install problem then, now try to use Uninstall to remove all of Snag-it, and see if it finds it now. Then try the install the failing Snag-it all over again.
(2) If you are knowledgeable to go into the Registry and remove all entries that refer to Snag-it. This should solve the install problem since there should be NO references to Snag-I at all left, but it is somewhat risky in that you do not want to make a mistake in the Registry editing. So, do not use this method if you have never done anything to the Registry before. If you do, or you have someone you trust and that has edited the Registry before, you should also do #3.
3) Do a scan with Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer) and look for all the places any file/folder with the name snag-it exists, and delete them all. Then try the install again.

If you would like direct online support to assist you with this problem, I can also do this, so respond and I will give you my email info. I support many customers online remotely already.
