Hello all!

It's that time of year again and are here with 2018's most-voted for new features! Mentioned in our Snagit 2019 announcement video, we collect the most-voted for new requests for Snagit from a few different sources; from our beta programs to this community, and those new requests are rounded up and linked below. What we would like you to do is peruse the below lists and if you feel a feature would fit well into your workflow, we would love to hear it!

Voting is easy! Just click the Vote button in the upper right corner of any post in the list below.
(Just make sure you're logged in to your TechSmith account)

We would like to note that features mentioned or submitted as a reply to this post will not be included in a future roundup, so if you have an idea click the "create Conversation" link after searching the forums for a similar idea (and if there is one, feel free to add your voice and vote to it!). Also, if you are running into a technical issue or would like to report a potential bug, please open a technical support ticket.

Without further ado, of the 150-plus new features requested this year, here are the most popular requests for 2018!

And there you have it! These are 2018's most-voted for new feature requests for Snagit! Please be sure you get your vote in by January 14th, 2019, as that is when this year's Roundup will conclude.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful 2018 and happy voting!

-Team TechSmith

p.s. - Being the topmost voted feature request(s) does not guarantee the feature will make it into a future build of Snagit, it does however, mean that the feature(s) will be reviewed in detail by the development team and appropriate leadership; it is possible that they (or someone from TechSmith) may reach out to the author of the feature, or those discussing it in the comments, for more information or clarity.

Official Response
Hello everyone!

Thank you all for participating in the 2018 Year-end voting roundup! The time has come to end the voting period and the counts to be tallied. Those ideas listed in this article will temporarily be closed so accurate counts can be made. The most popular ideas will be brought to the Snagit team for discussion, then we will put out an official response to said top voted ideas and at the same time this post will be updated with vote counts and idea statuses. You can read up on the various statuses and what they mean here.

Thank you all again for participating and look forward to our update in the near future!

Up front: I am sorry should I have overlooked the feedback, but... is there any at all?

Will there ever be a vote tally?

You've had 7 months to respond.

I see I'm late to this feedback thread, but I really wish there were better magnify/spotlight tools. Currently it's not clear what part of the screen shot the enlargement is magnifying..or that it's even a magnification of anything at all, as opposed to just another screenshot. it would be great to have arrows or visually interesting trails that indicate where on the screenshot the magnification is from. I'm thinking specifically when there is a document and we are highlighting specific text from that document. I'd also like to have the option to have a torn edges effect for the magnification.

It sounds similar to my suggestion regarding changes to the magnification tool (see link below).  I would use this more if there was a way to point out specifically the area you are magnifying without blocking everything around it.

Just out of curiosity, maybe I am overlooking a thread, but what are the results of the voting?

Hey Mike62,

There should be a "SnagIt 2018 Year End Voting Round Up" post at some point.

It seems like it's about due as votes had to be submitted by January 14.

I was curious about the 2017 Year End Voting Round up results. https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/snagit-2017-year-end-voting-roundup

The "Voting Results" for features that were "Under Consideration" at the time and features that were "Implemented". Had omitted a "Vote Count".

I updated the list and added the omitted "Vote Counts" as they appeared/tallied when I clicked on the links this morning. Those vote counts appear in Red Typeface.

You'll see updates to "Ideas Under Consideration" as well.

I felt it was enlightening to look back at what has unfolded since then.

The biggest take away is that the features implemented. With the exception of Text Capture and the Eyedropper Button in Fill Tool.

Is that there all features with the least number of votes. Compared to the other requests on the list.

So, if you've posted an Idea. And it's receiving a low vote count. This should be good news for you.

Regards,Joe

Probably we'll never get to know TechSmith's considerations to either implement an idea or not.
We can only guess. Seems that the vote count alone does not carry much weight, that's for sure.

Note that the votes for the 'Under consideration' items has increased as well.

Low vote count = good news .. ha!
It is both strange and striking indeed.

Yeah, a high vote count looks like bad news on the surface. lol

I didn't consider looking at the under consideration numbers.

The "Step by Step Builder" is implemented. It's  "Combine Images"
