Hello all!

It's that time of year again and are here with 2018's most-voted for new features! Mentioned in our Snagit 2019 announcement video, we collect the most-voted for new requests for Snagit from a few different sources; from our beta programs to this community, and those new requests are rounded up and linked below. What we would like you to do is peruse the below lists and if you feel a feature would fit well into your workflow, we would love to hear it!

Voting is easy! Just click the Vote button in the upper right corner of any post in the list below.
(Just make sure you're logged in to your TechSmith account)

We would like to note that features mentioned or submitted as a reply to this post will not be included in a future roundup, so if you have an idea click the "create Conversation" link after searching the forums for a similar idea (and if there is one, feel free to add your voice and vote to it!). Also, if you are running into a technical issue or would like to report a potential bug, please open a technical support ticket.

Without further ado, of the 150-plus new features requested this year, here are the most popular requests for 2018!

And there you have it! These are 2018's most-voted for new feature requests for Snagit! Please be sure you get your vote in by January 14th, 2019, as that is when this year's Roundup will conclude.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful 2018 and happy voting!

-Team TechSmith

p.s. - Being the topmost voted feature request(s) does not guarantee the feature will make it into a future build of Snagit, it does however, mean that the feature(s) will be reviewed in detail by the development team and appropriate leadership; it is possible that they (or someone from TechSmith) may reach out to the author of the feature, or those discussing it in the comments, for more information or clarity.

Dammit, I missed that this was missing!

Chris Larson said as recently as one month ago that this was definitely something that was going to be in a future release; but as the original request was made in 2017 instead of 2018, it looks like it didn't qualify for the 2018 roundup.

@Robert.  Given all the recent posts on this one, including Chris's comments, is it possible this could be added to the list please?

Hi Bill and Paul;

This feature is still under consideration / being investigated (as it's been requested before). Once we have more information on the topic, we'll be sure to share it out.

I would really, really like to be able to choose how many recent screen captures are in my tray.  Limiting the number to just 15 is cumbersome.  On occasion when I'm capturing a lot of screenshots at a time, I have to then hunt through my library to see what I might have missed.

Wait, how did you capture a screenshot of SnagIt?  I've always had to use another program.

From the SnagIt capture window (the one with the big red button) click File > Capture preferences...

Then look at the Capture tab. There is a setting that governs whether SnagIt is hidden during capture or not.

Note that some dialogs you open from SnagIt are what is known as "modal" dialogs in Windows. And when SnagIt opens one of those, you are unable to capture them using SnagIt and you have to use something different, like the Windows Snipping Tool to grab those.

Note that Windows programs often produce modal dialogs. SnagIt can capture others just fine. I just cannot capture the ones that are produced from SnagIt.

Cheers... Rick :)

I had 52+ before deleting the test screenshots.

When I noticed the issue nine months ago (and posted on the SnagIt forum -something confirmed by other users), I had supposed that the "Recent Files" option in the settings (referenced in your screenshot above) was related to the maximum number of recent screenshots in the tray.  That is, I didn't see any other settings.  Perhaps the developers had linked the two functions together with the 2018 version???

I just upgraded to SnagIt 19.1 right after Thanksgiving, so perhaps that's what fixed the problem.

Thanks again for taking the time to post directions on capturing SnagIt stuff.  I remember toggling that at one time (perhaps years ago).

I should add that some of the new cut-and-paste functions that help with alignment easily make the 2019 upgrade worth the money.  I've been using those features daily.

Best, Peter

How about professional looking callouts and text.  The existing ones are embarrassing.  I regularly need to import the image into PowerPoint and then create my callouts and highlights from there.

What would be helpful would be if you were able to post some examples of what you hoped to see for these. ;)

This could be interesting, but buried here in the 2018 roundup thread it will never make it.  Please could you raise it as a separate idea so we can all contribute and vote.
