2019 feature moved to 2020 version

The callout with arrow tail was a feature of the 2019 version of snagit. However, today I updated to 2019.1.5 and the feature was moved into the 2020 version. Why if this "feature" was available to me yesterday do I have to now pay to unlock it?

From the Snagit Updater today:
Callout with Arrow Tails:
  • This new callout type allows you to point at exactly what you want to draw attention to you image while still being able to add additional information with text.
  • If you don't see these in the callout tool, you can add your own by selecting the shape from the callout dropdown.
This is NOT a new callout type, it was release in October 2019. Since the 2019.1.5 update I cannot add this shape from the callout dropdown. This update has completely ruined the continuity of a project I am working on. I am not happy.

Hmm. My 2020 version has several callouts with tails that I can manipulate that it came with. Do you mean something different?

I'm not sure why it disappeared from the dropdown menu?

If you have an identical callout in another image. One that is in an unsaved state. You could right click it and add it as a Quickstyle to the menu.

I don't remember for sure but it seems to me that 'Callout' is one of the features that is installed by default on the toolbar along with 'Shape' and 'Arrow' and whatever else? I've customized my toolbar, that is why I don't remember.

If it were me, I would run a repair install of 2019.
See if that adds the default callouts back to the menu.

Thank you for the help everyone. I'm working on the issue, but it appears to have been triggered by the update of the software which got stuck at some point. At the time of posting I had 2019.1.5 running without the callout with arrow - now after restart I have 2018, 2019, and 2020 installed. Can anyone advise me on what is the best way to upgrade? Should I have these prior versions installed? Should I remove them? I also noticed all my customizations of the toolbar, color schemes, etc were gone. I'm not even sure if my license key includes 2020, so I have to look into that first. What a mess. I would really like a better method of upgrading the software.

Ok, I'm positive that this was some sort of update issue- I was able to confirm that my licensing does cover 2020 and that in the process of updating I was stuck in 2019.1.5 Unfortunately, it wasn't until a repair / restart that my default version is now 2020.1.1 and I have the callout with arrow tail! All is well again.

Again, thank you everyone in the community for the quick reply and helpful advice!

Glad you got that figured out Shane. I was a bit puzzled by the thought that "Callouts with Arrow Tails" was in 2019. We released that feature in 20.0.0 (see the version history: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006435067-Snagit-Windows-Version-History)

I understand the confusion now, and was equally confused yesterday. Apparently, I was running 2020, but during the recent update it crashed, I rebooted, and 2020 was somehow uninstalled (or in limbo) so Snagit reverted back to the 2019.1.5 version that I was complaining about. I run most programs from my taskbar, and Snagit runs automatically anyway. I also have used the update program for the last two years to go from 2018, 2019, and apparently unbeknownst to me 2020. Hence the confusion, I thought I was on 2019 still...

The strange thing is that 2020 was not in my programs list on the start menu or the control panel, but after another reboot I noticed in the start menu that it was there. So I opened the 2020 version, and the program ran the installer and voila the callouts with arrow tails returned! What a strange occurrence of events, but glad all is well again.
