"invalid or unsupported audio stream"

I renamed some of my folders containing my camtasia files. Now, when I open it, the following things occur:

1. First, I'm prompted to find my Camrec file. NO biggie - i just point to it.
2. Then, I get multiple prompts stating "Invalid or unsupported audio stream."
3. After clicking ok 15 times, my project displays but all the voiceover audios are blank.
4. If I play the file, it crashes when the timeline hits the blank audio segments.

The Camtasia file worked before i renamed the folders. I don't remember what the old folder names / structures were, or else I'd just change it back.

Do I have to create the video again? Not a big deal, but it will just take another 2 hours to mix and edit everything again.

I wish Camtasia wasn't so sensitive to folder and file location changes.

A puzzle. I can't see how changing a disk location would affect the original file... have you tried to open your original audio files in an audio editor?

I don't think that is the issue because I occasionally get the same error. And I am not changing disk location.

Hey All.....Now Finally I have come to know that why this error occurs & also i got the solution of this error. I am posting both. The reason & the Solution of this error...

Reason

The main reason of this error is the most number of clips used in one project. I wanna to tell you my own experience here. I created a project in Camtasia Studio 8 & save file in my computer/My documents. There was 10 video files in my project & I also splited 100s of clip from that 10 Video files & created 11 groups of video clips. Whenever I created 10 groups the file was opening fine in camtesia studio & after that I created 11th group & add more video files & save and then when I open the same file it shows me error "Invalid or Unsupported audio Stream"

After that I researched A lot & got the solution of it

Solution

The solution of this error is that you have to move your project Source Video files to another location in your hard disk.(I suggest you to move them in single folder which will help you when you relocate them).when you will move your source Video files to another location "For Example (Move your file from Local Disk D to Local Disk E Or From My Document/Camtasia to Desktop" &  after that open your Project file in Camtasia it will ask you that your files has been deleted or moved from source location Do you wanna to relocate them? Here Just Click No ,No ,No ,No ( Clicking on No Options Depends on the Quantity of Your Source Video File) Now your project will open in blank videos files & blank clips on timeline. Here you all have to do is that just relocate your Video Source Files. I means give a new source to Camtasia where you moved your Videos files.. I hope You understood...

I can open the audio files in media player just fine.

I also added them to a new Camtasia file.

I just tried to open the original Camtasia file again, and now it says the whole file is not valid.

I'll just scratch this one up to a corrupt file redo it. I can recreate this 60 sec video in 2.5 hours anyway. If it occurs again, i'll start creating backup files and exporting the file.

I upgraded to the latest version, and Camtasia seems more stable. That file is still corrupted, and I had to redo the editing.

Same problem here in camstudio 8.1.2 except it manifested by the program just crashing while trying to open its own project file. When trying to troubleshoot I renamed the source file directory with the project resources. As expected, the program complained about inability to find the files and then started giving the "invalid or unsupported audio stream" messages also like 15-20 times displaying the same dialog. After I clicked OK the corresponding number of times it just crushed again. So I did not get anywhere with my recovery effort.

I have just LOST all my work (the latest at the moment). Incredibly frustrated - this is beyond words.

I use Camtasia Studio all the time, and in a high volume capacity; I find that it works great for my purposes; I sometimes edit and produce 200 projects +[or more] in 1 week

if you know how to use it, you can accomplish some amazing screencasting tasks, and create some stunning video productions

Sometimes, out of the blue, I get  the error message "invalid or unsupported audio stream". This is when I am adding a clip to a video that I am editing. It doesn't happen all of the time. Does anyone know why this happens? I would love to understand it ads it creates many problems.

Thanks. Kim

Kim when you say you add a clip to the video you are editing where are you getting the video clip from and does it include audio too ? Are these clips you are adding ones you have recorded or from another source. Sometimes the video and audio codecs or the settings for the audio from other sources can cause this error to occur. Let us know and sorry for this problem you are experiencing. Thanks for posting and have a great day/night.

One other thing is which version of Camtasia Studio are you currently using ? Is it the latest of 8.6 ?

Hi Fred
Thanks for your reply. I am on the latest version of Camtasia Studio8. This happens when I am editing a camproj file and click " record screen" to add another clip to incorporate into the video. I am only using Camtasia audio from the recording screen. This usually works really well for me. But sometimes I get the above mentioned error message. I can get through it but it takes many successive clicks to save it after the edits. I just can't figure out why this happens or how to avoid it. It usually happens after I have already made many edits to the video. Is that the issue?
Thanks.

Ok Kim let me see if I understand you correctly then. When you say that this happens when you are "editing a camproj file and click " record screen" to add another clip to incorporate into the video. I am only using Camtasia audio from the recording screen."

Then do you mean you a have an already recorded a video or however many and saved them in the .camproj format and when you have that project on the Timeline then you are just recording the audio from the recording screen. Do you mean you are using the Record Narration option and then bringing that into the Timeline after saving the audio recording or are you saying that you delete the video and just use the audio then? If you can upload a small video to share or some screenshots of your timeline it would be helpful in understanding what you are doing. Let me know and thanks for getting back and I hope to hear back from you. Have a great day/night.

Same thing is happening to me. Very fustrating. I used camtasia 6 and never experienced these issues, only upgraded to camtasia 8 a few months back as it had great new features. However the package is too unstable. I have recorded all my clips through the camtasia recorder and when i was 1/4 of the way through my video editing camtasia crashed for no reason. When my project opens up now all the clips audio is corrupt. The sound is still there but i cannot edit them without the error "invalid or unsupported audio stream" popping up about 10 times. I have tried creating a new project and importing the remaining clips again but it seems to have corrupted the original clips which is really strange.
Is there any feedback from technical support on how to resolve this as it is mightly fustrating and the loss of time is painful . I have logged my issue with them but have had no response.

Well, I know how to move this Source video files but I don't know how to relocate them AFTER I clicked no.. Cuz then nothing appears on my timeline or it stay's blank. I don't know how to fix it but it always appears when I put long videos and edit them alot (many cuts, splits etc.) Is that the problem? I tried to reduce those splits and on some points totally remove them. just pasted the whole unedited video and still fails at the some point... (sometimes at 2.8%, sometimes at 8.2% etc.) And after some unsuccessful rendering tries it says that its invalid or unsupported audio stream. I think the simplest solution to this is to take the camtasia screen recorder and just record the preview and then edit some fps-drops out.. but that's not what I payed for Editing!!!
