It would be very helpful if .snag files would show the thumbnail image in Windows Explorer eg with the selection of Large or medium icons view option in Win 7. What do you say?

been asking for this for 3 years...
I need to view a range of different file types as thumbnails - viewing just snagit thumbs inside snagit is useless...

I shared this on Facebook see the link above. The only way any company will be able to justify the work to create this is if a large enough number of people are visibly looking for this ease of use functionality. Post it everyone!

What does StevieB mean? Even inside Snagit's open file dialog box, you can't preview .snag files. :(

FWIW, Snagit for Mac does provide this functionality via Apple's "QuickLook" feature.

I wonder how much effort it would be to have this in the Windows Version

Snagit is not an inexpensive program ... and they ask a LOT of $ for upgrades ... you'd think they could at least offer a way for customers to view their .snag files in Windows Explorer. Laziness? Greed? Don't care about customer needs? Come on techsmith ...

For me it's all about how much you use it. I checked run Snagit when Windows starts. I value my startup speed. I just use it that much!
All this time and still no preview makes me wonder no-one else would find this valuable.
Meanwhile Snippit has been created by Microsoft reminding me of the browser wars.
Please stay relevant Techsmith!

Jiminy Cricket - makes me need to save everything as a daggon BMP for you know what sake just so I can see it when I am browsing. What is the use of saving a .snag file if you can't see what it is when you go to open it even from within the Snagit Editor! Maybe another company can make an add-on. I'd pay for it.

Preview is a property of Windows not Snagit. I wouldn't expect much from TS on this issue no matter on nice it would be.

This is still a valid need. What we're talking about here is not a "preview" option in a Windows Explorer context menu, but rather the ability to display a thumbnail of the snag image. Apps have to code that in in order for Windows to be able to display the thumbnail image.

The problem with displaying only a generic image is that you are looking at a folder full of "snag" files, you don't really know which file contains the image you are looking for.

Yes, you could have assigned tags in Snagit and also named the snag file, but many people do a lot of rapid captures and only name non-snag files (png, jpg, gif, ...).

So this feature would be VERY helpful to nearly every user of Snagit. And this is definitely within TechSmith's area for programming, not Microsoft's.

Agreed, I have over 3000 snag it files for documenation purposes, and my job would be much easier if AI could preview them in Windows Explorer.

Now that the Library is no longer part of SnagIt, this is a major inconvenience.

Yes, please make it a priority to package the .snag preview code as an installable codec in Windows so we can easily work with and organize the files. Thanks.

Another reasonable request that is older than 4 years! I am beginning to believe that Techsmith doesn't really care about their customer's needs. I mean, in four years, no one at TechSmith could be bothered to respond to this request? Whether it is a yes, no, or maybe... some kind of response would be nice!

So Techsmith, if you're interested in keeping your software business alive, how about a real survey the users as to what would make the software easier and faster and more intuitive. Perhaps that would excite them enough to upgrade. I just liked SnagIt on Facebook.. There are 30,651 likes there. Ask us what we think? Can you consume such information to run your business?
