"There was a problem copying the link to the clipboard" but it actually works

I get "There was a problem copying the link to the clipboard" about 80% of the time. However, the link *does actually end up in the clipboard* every single time.

So this is just an annoying, useless message that I have to click to make disappear.

Hi,
Is this a problem you see right on Screencast.com or in Jing?

Nope, you're fine :) We make Jing and Screencast.com and lots of other products too. I was just trying to narrow this down so I could follow up with a couple targeted questions.

Are you on Windows or Mac?

What share button are you using in Jing when you see this? For example, Screencast.com, Copy, Save, Twitter?

Thanks,
Mike Curtis

This is a Windows 7, 32-bit. This occurs only when I upload to screencast.com. I have used the "Copy" (image to clipboard) button a number of times too, and that has worked every time with no error messages.

I'm starting to have this issue.  I have never had this problem with Jing before now.  It always comes up with this message each time I use it and it does always copy to clipboard.  It's irritating that the message pops up ever single time.  Is there a fix for this?  I'm using Windows 8 on PC.

The problem is Jing is holding the clipboard open too long, or more likely, that it's causing multiple clipboard updates over the course of 1000ms.

I use a 3rd party clipboard program Clipmate and it has settings to delay the copy.  When I set it to 1000ms delay or greater, Jing copy works.  Less than 1000ms Jing copy gives the copy error.  Delaying copy by 1 second is a work around for me but now everything I copy gets delayed by 1 second (1000ms).

Jing has worked great for years. Techsmith made some change to the auto copy functionality that is causing the problem.

I have the same problem. I'm currently running Windows Vista Business 32bit. I get the message both on a new capture or trying to share an image from my history. The address IS in the clipboard, though. The funny thing is I showed one of our users how to use the system on a fresh install, and a different user and neither of them got the error. One is running Win 7/64bit and the other is running Vista Business, same as I am.

I also get the same issue. I'm on:
  • Windows 8.1 Enterprise
  • Intel Core i7-4470 @ 3.40Ghz
  • 8GB RAM
  • Jing

As mentioned, it still appears to have been copied to the clipboard.

I had the same issue. The problem was that I had installed a firewall software called ZoneAlarm on my PC which was blocking Jing performing that action. I shutdown ZoneAlarm and re-launched Jing and it works perfectly. I just have to figure out how to add an exception for Jing to ZoneAlarm now....

I got rid of zone alarm and now use Avast Free an I don't need to delay my clipboard copy timing now (see message above from 2 years ago).
