I produce online lectures for my undergraduate and graduate university courses and have been using a picture-in-picture element to give the students a more 'genuine' lecture feel. This suits the majority of students but I have found that some get a bit of information overload with both the video of me and the screencast plus audio. At present I re-render all my lectures without the picture-in-picture to enable this alternative but would prefer to have a single video with the ability for viewers to toggle on/off the picture-in-picture. I appreciate toggling a video may be difficult so a possible alternative would be to toggle on/off a single track with a call out which can essentially be overlaid over the picture-in-picture video and block it out for those who would prefer not to see it. This would be similar to the closed captioning function but would allow the user to identify a specific track that will correspond to a button on the player that can toggle this track on and off. Allowing the producer to customize the button text and any hover over help text would be best but a single generic button with no text would work as well.
