I want this too, and there are many separate requests asking for this feature - All the votes should be consolidated into a single request so that it has more chance to get implemented in the next update.

Hi,

You can achieve this with a rectangular callout. Is there a reason why you'd want it on the text tool specifically?

Yes - it relates to the Smart Move feature. Once text boxes are identified and created from the bitmap, I'd like to make their background opaque, so that the original text from the bitmap is hidden.

I see your suggested workaround, but it would be unfortunate to have to manually recreate the text box, when the Smart Move feature did it for me. The other workaround I used was to place an opaque rectangle beneath the text box. But it's also a lot of work relatively.  Text boxes and rectangular shapes really should be the same kind of object under the hood (just with different presets). PowerPoint works like this I believe.

In any event, there's a reason why this request has a lot of votes - it's quite common to start with text, and later want to place it on top of anything and still keep the text visible - hence the desire to make the text box opaque. It would be great to see this in the next release, also especially because it further enhances the Smart Move feature.

Thanks for the explanation, that totally makes sense! I'll pass this feedback along to the team.
