If they were implemented, I would hope they would work in a similar way as other applications that offer rulers. Rulers by themselves are useless in my estimation. What really makes them useful (at least to me) is the ability to click on a ruler and drag a guide line from there to the canvas in order to assist with alignment of other objects.
If that simple ability existed, I actually wonder how many folks would still scream for rulers?
Cheers... Rick :)
Adding rulers and guidelines to the Snagit interface.
It's a series of ideas I have to make Snagit more Designer-friendly.
In a layout, having guidelines can help to place the objects and text more precisely.
This is one of a few ideas I wanted to present the Snagit team with.
What do you think? Do you think this feature could be interesting or not?
While snapping is great and very useful, there are times where I've had it work against me and objects seem to insist on being aligned but I need to nudge them a few pixels away for various design reasons.
Something to consider.
Rick X 2, Chris and Robert, here we are in 2018 and after months we are still discussing ruler, guidlines and snap. I have posted pictures of what some of the users are asking for. Let NOT talk more about it and get Techsmith to add it to thier list. Most of the drawing programs, YES SnagIt is a drawing program besides screen capture. If a program lets you add text, annotate, stamp and add pictures, it is a drawing program, capisce
So Techsmith, give us the option of turning the Rulers, guidelines and snap off and on whenever we want and give us those features also as buttons for the stupid toolbar too. Most of the programs have it so let us get Snagit into the 21st century. I am not worried about the bloat becasue it is bloated already thanx to Abby. I am exhaustipated reading about this topic but please get it done.
Look at the last sample below.
Thank you for letting me vent but enough is enough.
Issue: I just need Gridlines at a very distant zoom. Not necessarily to the level of each Pixel.
Detail: Sometimes I need to just make sure that very long straight lines are at 90 or 180 degrees. To make sure they are perfectly straight, I have to
1) Click 'View'
2) Choose 'Pixel Grid'
3) Zoom EXTREMLY close to the image to see the pixel grid
4) Scroll up/down or left/right to notice that the line is moving out of the pixel lane
Any existing fix? If not, this would be great to bundle with this optional ruler topic
There are 2 main topics. Snapping and Rulers/Guidelines.
Snapping on the Canvas
This was released on Snagit Mac late last year. We’ve had positive feedback so far. And it is being released on Snagit Windows early next month! It’s a configurable option at the moment. But we will work toward allowing you to toggle it on and off, while moving objects around on the canvas, in a future update. We are excited to get this into your hands. It was a candidate for voting in a previous round.
Rulers and Draggable Guidelines
Snapping and Rulers was upvoted quite high last time as well. So this is great to see continued interest. We understand the basics of why this is useful, of course. But we will reach out to a portion of you to get a better handle on the details of the needs and use cases here (e.g., mostly creating screen content, print content, inches, cm, pixels, points, behavior of guidelines). If this does make it in Snagit, we will definitely allow you to toggle it off for those who want to save screen space. :)
Thank you for voting!!
Here are the definitions of what the statuses mean for Ideas.
Here is the overall vote count for the rest of the Ideas in this roundup, as well as what has been implemented since our previous round.
Add rulers to the canvas had a Vote Count of 326.
It isn't listed anymore in "2018 Year-end Snagit Feature Request Roundup!"
is this still being tested or will it not be implemented?
