Add the play and other control buttons to the main window

It would be nice to have the play, fast forward and rewind buttons on the main window as well as the video preview window.

I use 2 monitors and often put the preview window on one monitor and the main window with the tracks and clip bin on another monitor. Lots of times I need to watch the tracks and cursor while controlling the stop and start buttons. But with the control buttons on the preview window (on a different monitor), it's awkward to get the precision that I need.

One idea is that the control buttons could be undockable, and I can choose where to put them. Another idea is that the main window would only show the control buttons if the preview window is undocked.

I use 2 monitors for all my video work as well. It's not a bad idea but I just use keyboard shortcuts when I need to.

Here's what I do. Pressing the space bar controls playback for "Start and Stop".

The Left and Right arrow keys move the Timeline Playhead forward and backward respectively one frame at a time.
If you hold the L&R arrow keys down the video will play in that direction as long as you hold them down.
If you hold the shift key at the same time the playhead will split and will start selecting a section of a clip or audio track on the timeline for you. This also works forward and backward.
The program has a bug and sometimes the L&R arrow keys will change the timeline zoom level instead.
When it does that  to me I use the space bar to play part of the video and that  restores the arrow key functionality for me.

Regards, Joe

Joe, I can dig it. I figured there must be keyboard shortcuts. God bless the folks who can make keyboard shortcuts work. Keyboard shortcuts are weird. Every software has their own. It's easier for me to read menus and click a mouse.  :)

I'm wondering if the "odd behavior" of the keyboard shortcuts is attributable to inadvertent focus being placed on the zoom slider. Perhaps by an inadvertent brush with a laptop trackpad or pressing tab to shift focus?

Hi there!
We are pleased to announce that that we have just released our newest and most powerful version of Camtasia.  When you detach the canvas, the play back controls appear on both the detached canvas window, and on the main editor window.   This should let you do most of your editing without having to move your mouse from one monitor to another. You can buy Camtasia (see: http://bit.ly/1L17R9t ) or download the trial (see: http://bit.ly/1tx3fNn ).

Please feel free to post your feedback and feature requests here in our Community forums and remember, all technical support-related inquiries should be directed to our dedicated Technical Support team at https://support.techsmith.com/
