Adding an Option to Set the Desired Bitrate Before starting of Recording

Hi

I've used Camtasia mac trial version for few weeks and it's absolutely what I'm looking for. It's really amazing and I can't even imagine comparing it with other similar tools out there.

The one and only problem which I encountered is the huge size of recorded videos and lack of time and free space on my SSD to reduce the size via encoding (=share) section. In my opinion, it would be so great to be able to set the desired bitrate at the first before starting to record.

So far, I've had to reduce the size/bitrate using the app after recording (re-encoding actually) but it's a so time-consuming process and I really haven't got too much time n free space doing that. Adding this feature literally saves a lot of time and therefore no much time needed to convert the videos.

So please let me know the possibility of adding this feature to the app in the next updates by the developing team.

Thank you

How large are your .trec files? I just checked a recent one on my hard disk: 2m49s at 1080p is 37MB, which works out to be about 13 MB per minute. So a long, 60-minute recording session would be about 800 MB, certainly less than 1 GB.

Pragmatically, to edit video, you should keep 50 or more GB free on your hard disk. 4TB external disks are about $100 now. Disk space isn't really a limit anymore.

Hi davemillman

Totally unbelievable what you have mentioned as an average size of .trec file per min. Absolutely opposite of my experience. It seems like the only element which moves in your recorded videos is the cursor. It must be the reason for having such a low-size output. Unlike you, I have to play some videos and it makes a huge difference. For the last note in this part, could you please tell me the average bitrate of your videos? 2min video in 10mbps bitrate just 37MB? Impossible!

I have about 100 .trec raw file at the moment and the average for me is 125MB/s which means 7.5GB/h. As you see it's huge and can't even comparable with 2hour h264 ordinary1080p movies.

The second part sounds like you are talking about external HDDs which I don't prefer to use them.

The option to set bitrate before recording is sorely needed. I really hope the developers add this feature soon.

Here's the MediaInfo for the file I mentioned:

Your bitrate is indeed 10X mine. I don't know what causes that; it may be the amount of screen activity as you said. Also, there is no audio track in my file (I record audio separately).

As for external HDDs, they work fine for me.
