Adding new default Callouts to the Callout pane?

There is a certain task I'm wanting to do with Camtasia, but I'm not sure if it is possible. I've tried my own solutions, and have come to the point where I'd like to get some official support help. It's fairly technical, and I'd like to get some understanding as to what I can and can't modify for the program.

High-level, what I'm trying to do is create a library of default presets for team members to use. We have a visual brand we want to follow, and I'd like to include callouts that follow our brand. Basically, what I want to do is add new Callouts to the callout pane. For example, I want two copies of the double-sided arrow, one red color, and one blue color. I know this can be done with the asset library, but I would prefer if I could add the new callouts to the callout pane. It's easier to add callouts from this pane when compared to the asset library; larger thumbnails, simple single 'click to add to timeline', automatically takes me to the settings for the callout.

So, I've modified some of the .xml files and I've been able to do things like change the default style and colors of the callouts. And I can create an exact duplicate of the callout xml file and have two copies of the same callout in the pane. But what I can't seem to do is make a copy of the callout xml file with a different attribute (such as a different color). If I modify the contents of the copy callout file, that callout becomes blank. I'm also trying to figure out the function of a reference to a .png file listed in the xml.

Also, as it is now, when I add a shape callout and change the color, when I add a second callout, it defaults to the color I selected for the previous callout. The callouts default to the style of the previous callout. Is there a way to change this behavior? With this function in place, it would be useless for me to create default callouts in the pane with different color, as it would default to whatever the previous color was.

If there is any advice I can get as to whether or not what I want to do is possible, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi Alex,
Have you checked out this tutorial about custom callouts?  I'm hoping it will help you.  If not, i would suggest that you chat with our Tech Support team.  You can submit a ticket here:  Let me know if this helped.  Thanks.

Alex, I'm curious what the Tech support people have to say about this as well.

I can appreciate what you are attempting to do.  It's sounds like a nice option for your business and myself as well.
But to alter the actual "callout pane"? That means altering the Camtasia Program itself.
I'm pretty sure that's not allowed with any program that is protected by Copyright Law.
I support your desire to do it, and it has me interested as to where this could lead.
Would appreciate any feedback you have on this, Thanks in advance.

Regards, Joe

Word from support is as such:

' is not possible at this time to change the default call outs from the Callouts tab. Instead the Library needs to be used for custom call outs. I am afraid that there is not a way to change the behavior of the color used for the new callout either.'

I suspected as much, but it was worth a shot.

I suppose my main issue here is that the asset library could be easier to use.  It's easier to see the callouts in the Callouts tab because the thumbnails are bigger. You just single click on the callout to add it, and it takes you right to the settings for the callout. If you want to add a callout from the asset library, clicking does nothing, double-clicking previews the callout. You have to either click and drag onto the timeline or right click and 'add at playhead'. Then you have to double-click the callout in the timeline or click on the Callouts tab to get to the settings for the callout.  Just not as easy.

I'll add my suggestions to feature requests.

Thanks Alex!  It's great when people post the feedback they get from support. Sorry it wasn't what you needed, but I appreciate the communication.  Having this as a feature request will also be a help to other users.  Thanks again!

I was going to post about this very thing and see that the idea was proposed years ago.

So, I'll bump this thread instead.

Is there now a way to add new callouts to the Callouts pane, either as a part of the UI or by adding XML files? I'm using Camtasia 2018.
