I can change the magnification, the diameter of the circle, and border color/thickness. Nothing more.
These are the additional functionality I'd like to see:
- Other Shapes (rectangle with rounded edges, in particular)
- Magnify one area, but display magnification elsewhere (like a callout)
- Lines that show where it came from (akin to Rick Stone's post here https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/using_magnifier_in_snagit )
If I want to magnify, say, a tiny piece of text, I want to indicate clearly what it is, it must be magnified quite a bit. The aspect ratio ofthe text is very high. The circle's aspect ratio 1:1. This means that what I want to emphasize through magnification is not obvious because it is dwarfed by all the stuff around it that had to be magnified as well, and the context/exact placement of what was magnified is obscured.
- Select Area
- Select effects tab at bottom of quick styles
- Twiddle and apply
- Create original box, drawout lines if so desired.
(Now to learn how to make it useful in Camtasia too).
It's easy to apply a border to the magnified selection.
In this image I made a rectangular selection and applied a green border. It's a quick style that I saved so it only requires clicking it First to apply it.
See Image Below,Click to Enlarge.
Then apply magnification.I'm not a big fan of dimming the rest of the image so I generally don't.The border is the only thing that makes this possible in my opinion.
As outlined in our New Community Processes post, feature requests are open to voting up through the 1st of the month, where we will then tally the votes and present the findings to our product teams. To ensure we have the most accurate data, on the 1st of the month we will be locking the threads that were listed in the Feature Request Round-up that was posted on the 15th. Once we have reviewed the submitted feature requests, our product team(s) may respond to the request, and if that is the case then that thread will then be unlocked for further discussion.
In the event that your idea is not selected for a response feel free to resubmit the idea and share it with your colleagues to garner as much exposure as possible!
Thank you again for your idea and we look forward to hearing more from you!
It still continues to be one of the top requests we’ve gotten in the last several months. And as a reminder, adding this functionality to the magnify tool is something we wanted to get in for the 13.0 and 4.0 release. But we ran out of time. We will definitely keep this in mind when we revisit our work on callouts and specifically the magnify tool. I'm a huge fan of both:
- A different shape for the magnifier
- Pulling off the magnified portion from overtop the original and having the lines connecting it.
It's not updated to run on Windows 10. But it will, I downloaded it today. Don't use "Dynamic Mode" you will have to kill it using task manager.
You can apply a rectangular zoom of varying dimensions to your screen and make a capture using a hot key.
So it's a little clunky, but it works.
You can use it in SnagIt, but the image needs to be at 100% resolution.Or the zoomed image is blurry.
In this image, I have a SnagIt round magnification and a Virtual Magnifying Glass. Both at 2X power.
VMG goes up to 16x power. Which is probably to high for any image.
Anyway, workarounds are workarounds. Here's another.
