I am using Camtasia Studio 8 on Windows. I have created a video (for my client) that will be on the App Store and Google Play. I know I need to create an MP4, but can someone give advice on which MP4 format I should choose? 480, 720HD, 1080HD? Also, do I choose with the Smart Player, or without? My clients said it needs to be the "format for landscape iPad".

Hi - I've done a few of these (for the iPad) myself.  I always choose the highest level resolution (1080HD).  If the playback doesn't support resolution that high, it will scale back automatically.  The main difference with the higher resolution is that your MP4 file will be produced at a much larger size.  'With SmartPlayer' is only required if you're creating interactive quizzes or surveys, or including captions.  But, if you're just creating videos (not quizzes or surveys), selecting the SmartPlayer has no negative effects.  Lastly, if you're looking to create something to be watched in landscape, just select 1024x768 for the editing dimensions and the canvas will reflect the landscape dimensions format for iPad.

Great reply Patrick. I would just like to add that you need to test, test, test. Don't assume it will work (especially since it's for a client). Make sure you try it with the different formats and view them on the iPad to make sure it has the desired outcome. Test on different versions of the iPad too if you can. It may take some tweaking but you should b able to get a great outcome.

When I wrote the Camtasia for Mac book (Interactive PDF and iBook), I wanted people to be able to view it on the iPad with a great experience so they could watch it there while working on their computers. It took some testing but once I found out the best settings, it looked great.

Good luck.
