Allow setting default customization tool

When opening new image in the editor, I'd like the ability to explicitly define the default annotation tool that would be automatically selected. For instance, Callout is automatically selected when I start editing an image.

Yes! Allow setting a default tool. Most of what I do does NOT involved adding an arrow. It's quite irritating and a time waster to have to remember to change that every single time. An added option of "Last tool used" would be good too, but setting the default tool is a real need.

I would like to add several other presets:
1) show picture with pixel grid
2) show picture with zoom factor x
3) apply automatic trimming for picture

Just upgraded from 12 to 13 and this is one thing that bugs me, I mostly use the shape tool.  Either allow the option to set a default tool or at least remember the last tool used on exit.

Snagit will now remember the last tool you used when taking a new capture in the latest maintenance: 13.0.2 :)

Uh, no, it doesn't remember the last tool. It always defaults to arrow, which is really annoying. I'd be happy if it either remembered my last used tool, or better, would be to let me set the default tool. At the very least I'd be okay with it defaulting to a mover/grabber. At least that wouldn't change the image.

We will look into why it's not working for you. Anybody else having an issue where remembering the last tool isn't working in 13.0.2?

One note, we still remember what you had last selected on an image when switching between captures. So we'll switch to the corresponding tool so that you can edit it's properties.
Example: I've drawn a callout in Image A and leave it selected, then I take a new capture (Image B), I draw an arrow on Image B, then I switch back to Image A, and Snagit will switch to the callout tool because we remember that you had the callout selected.
This is how it works in 12 as well.

Well, I can't say that the last tool I used hasn't been remembered, but I have noticed that a day or two back, I did some rearranging of the Quick Styles of many tools. And today it seems my arranging hasn't seemed to have "stuck".

To be honest, the only way I could tell was that I have a row of specific styles for the Shapes. I disliked them being partially covered and wanted them at the top for easy recall. I had arranged them to be there and today they are back to where they were before I moved them.

My [latest] Snagit does recall the last tool in use, but that was not the original issue I submitted. Snagit fails to remember the settings for each "Effects" tool. For example, I rarely use Grayscale filter. I use Sharper at 15% quite a bit. But once I exit Snagit, the next time it opens it forces Grayscale, so I have to keep changing that. It's quite irritating.

Thank you for the report, cyber4eyes. Definitely something we are aware of and definitely a pain when using the same effect again and again. We'll look into it what it would take.

Thanks. Hopefully this is not "rocket science" -- allow setting/change of whatever determines each effect's default value. Ideally there should also be a "Reset defaults" choice. As Dimiter suggests, also let users set a constant default tool if they so choose. Options are always good and offer flexibility as well as the chance to make advanced use of Snagit as a user becomes more experienced..

Instead of remembering the last tool I used, please allow me to define a default tool. This is a much more powerful option because it gives me control over the way I use the tool. Yes, you can leave the default at "last tool used by the user"; however, I as a user want to be able to override that. Ideally, the tool should serve the needs of both novice and advanced users. Setting a default tool is an advanced feature.

"Setting a default tool is an advanced feature." Yes, you're absolutely correct. So is setting a default "toolbox."

If I choose a set of faves, I should be able to override the others and go directly to those if I choose. I agree with Cyber4eyes that providing flexibility for both your idea and mine would be a great enhancement.

For me it's not so much remembering the last TOOL used, it would be the ability to make my Favorites the default for Qucikstyles. Seems like anytime I want to use one of my favorites, I need to first select the Favorites icon in the upper tray/menu. I'd like it to always default to that, since those are the tools I use most. Thanks.

Yes! Let's combine Dimiter's suggestion and yours...

Allow the user to set the default: tool or "Favs"
