I am going to guess that his is beyond the scope of a screen capture/markup utility. There are other softwares out there to do that, even the old Animation shop by Jasc
I have a copy if you want it or you can get it at one of the old versions sites bundled with PSP 12 or earlier

So you can make a GIF from the video, and we can not make GIF from more images.
I do not understand this logic.

Snagit can only convert what is there as in an MP4. A full blown animation program can take pictures of your choosing and make a GIF.  Doing so is beyond the scope of the product
Example: MS Word can actually make a fairly decent  News letter. If you need to layout a magazine or newspaper you need something that will link text across pages, EASILY handle graphics, wrapping plus good control of text flow including justifying and kerning. A lot of this  is beyond the scope of MS Word

So if you want to create GIFs from scratch, you need the right tool, something where you can add the frames, control the speed of each frame, control the looping etc all of which is beyond the scope of snagit

Animation shop is showing it's age but is a good place to start. There are other tools out there

Not to mention the simple fact of sizing. With SnagIt capturing and creating the MP4, it already has perfectly sized frames. It seems likely that if someone were to want to make a GIF from different images, they could end up with wildly varying sizes from image to image.

This is disappointing.

I have to agree with Danny_jim. Having ability to do it from video, but not from several images just doesn't make sense.

Rick Grunwald and Stone - I hear what you're saying. Admittedly, I don't understand the inner workings of SnagIt, but being able to take many capture images and create an animated GIF seems like it should be a basic feature of a Capture/Markup utility.

Don't get me wrong, I like that I can capture video with SnagIt, but that almost seems like a feature that would be part of a different utility or an addon. If they can add that, then I just don't see why they can't add the other.

While searching for this, I've found posts that are at least 5 years old where people are asking for this.

I'd love to hear from an explanation about this from someone at TechSmith!

Thanks.

I would like to also put my votes into this bag - I find myself taking Snagits of 2 image states and having to bring these into Camtasia and set up for a gif animation export ALL THE TIME. It would be very useful to be able to select the 2 (or more images) and similar how you can combine, get a UI where you can set how much time you would like to show each image, looping and other gif controls and then just create the gif animation.

Where this utility is today, I would argue that this functionality is most definitely not out of scope for this program, but right in it's wheelhouse.

Thanks,
/Christian

Same here.  It's a simple feature that I thought was what they put into 2020, so I paid for the upgrade.  It's actually not.  :(

It would seem that this is a perfect example of why a free trial is offered. ;)

It would seem that this is a perfect example of what a smart-alack would say.

I would use this feature.

Was it snarky? Yeah, kind of.

But seriously, it honestly baffles me as to how many people post here claiming they plopped down their hard earned money and now they are all upset and wanting refunds and how TechSmith are just bad sports and horrible and lazy or whatever because the software doesn't do this or that they expected it to do.

And all you have to do is download, install, and evaluate to see first hand and understand it BEFORE spending your money.
