You can animate the color of a shape, like a box or a circle, but you can't animate text to change colors. Why? Can this be fixed?

You are correct that text color of an annotation cannot currently be animated. The why has to do with the fact that a single annotation can have multiple text colors. In fact each letter can be a different color, and size. Allowing this, and allowing the text color to animate is technically challenging.

This brings up a question for the community. Which is more useful to you: the ability to animate text colors, or the ability to have different text colors in the same annotation?

As a work around, you can fade in a copy of your annotation with a different text color over the original annotation. This requires the fill and outline color to have 100% opacity, and does not work so well if you are also animating the size, shape or position of the annotation at the same time.

Thanks Stephen! I ended up using the colorize filter to get something close to what I wanted (it does a funny fade through green before it turns the shade of blue I want, but it works).

I can't say I've ever needed to have the color of individual letters different, but I'm not saying that isn't a useful feature. I think for consistent workflow, I would like text annotations to work more like graphic annotations. I think it's just the odd exceptions scattered here and there that make it difficult to design something. I assume I can do something with text that I can do with a shape/graphic and spend too much time wondering if I've found a bug or broken something.
