Annotations and Callouts

Annotations and Callouts are not resizing after using the feature in a previous project.  I have submitted this problem to Camtasia and so far the suggestions that have not worked:
Uninstall/Reinstall the program
Delete the Camtasia Registry Key (works for only one session).
Change the Hardware Acceleration from Use graphics card to use Software-Mode only.

I absolutely live in Camtasia and this small problem is turning into a huge problem, so if anyone has figured out a fix for this I would very much appreciate it!

I am currently workng with Camtasia 2018 V. 2018.0.4

Are you able to better articulate what you are seeing? Maybe even use the Camtasia recorder to record it in the editor and upload it to ScreenCast.com so others can see first hand as you describe it?

Then post the link to the recording here.

Rick,

I will do that in a bit.  I am currently working on a project where I deleted the registry key so I could use the callout function.

Thanks! I might imagine that seeing it happen first hand would not only be helpful to anyone actually trying to assist here but also to the TechSmith folks!

So what about using the Scale properties slider in the properties panel? Can't you use it?

Thanks for that. I'm wondering if a temporary workaround would involve just locking the lower track before attempting to adjust the motion callout?

The double arrow clearly indicates hes grabbing the corner of the callout and its not resizing. Locking the video might make it easier to grab, but it won't fix the issue.

I'm pretty sure the properties slider will over ride the issue.Once changed, it might unlock it and allow for further adjustments in the canvas area.

It seems like a graphics drive issue to me.But its probably an oddball bug

Personally, I'm wondering if it is related to that issue I always see in SnagIt where I have to futz around looking for the sizing handle to even appear. My gut says it's probably related to that dang Windows setting that zooms things to 125% or whatever for the DPI.  Seems that little feature wreaks havoc with many apps.

@Joe, I have tried the slider option, but it does not solve the problem in the sense that I can reduce the size of the box, but again, is very inconvenient and will not really size to what I am trying to callout.  Ex. I want the box to be taller, but the callout stays in aspect ratio, so if what I am trying to point out is larger (or smaller) than the callout, I am stuck with a weird looking callout.

@Rick, maybe I will check into that.  Yes, Windows just loves to cause us grief!  :)

I really appreciate all the feedback!

LOL, I've seen posts that sit for months with no suggestions. It's amusing to see a reply that happens about 10 minutes after the initial post where no suggestions are really even offered, then concluding that help just isn't happening here.

If you read the initial question/post. You'll find suggestions offered by by Camtasia that I would assume must be TechSmith.
Expanded on by Kelly.

Kelly,
I am currently working with TechSmith (Camtasia) regarding the problem.  All the fixes I posted in my originating post were given to me by TechSmith technical support.  I was just hoping others were experiencing the same problem and that perhaps they had a fix.

I do recall seeing a post about problems with either the resizing of callouts or editing callouts that were created in Camtasia 8 and opened  in Camtasia 9.

To the best of my  knowledge, that was not resolved. The easiest fix is copy and past the text into a new callout and delete the original.

Hi Worden,
For the project you show in the video, if you click play, does the callout play as it should?
Does this happen in EVERY project? Or, just in this one you are working in?
If you haven't tried, can you begin a new project and add the same Sketch Motion callout to the timeline and try to adjust it on the canvas. What happens?
Do other Sketch Motion callouts do that same thing? Or, is it just this one?
Can you add regular callouts to the canvas? Do they work correctly?

Kelly,

if you click play, does the callout play as it should? - No, it does not.

Does this happen in EVERY project? Or, just in this one you are working in? - Every one, after the initial project is converted to an .MP4 file, unless I delete the registry key and re-initialize Camtasia.

If you haven't tried, can you begin a new project and add the same Sketch Motion callout to the timeline and try to adjust it on the canvas. What happens? I have tried (video link is above) and am still having the same problem.

Do other Sketch Motion callouts do that same thing? Or, is it just this one? All of them.

Can you add regular callouts to the canvas? Do they work correctly? Yes and No

I have the same problem. When I add a sketch motion and adjust the size, only parts of the annotation are appearing. The only solution I have found, is to close and reopen the project. Then it works for a while - until the problem occurs again.

I am having the same issue (Camtasia 2019). It is quite frustrating because I have to restart the software every time to fix this. I am quite perplexed to why this issue has not been fixed as people have been pointing it out since at least 3 years ago.

I do not experience any callout sizing issues in Camtasia 2019 or 2020

not sure what the exact problem is that you are seeing

could you do a short screencast, hosted on screencast.com, demonstrating the issue happening?  if so, please link us to it so we can consider further

Yeah, its frustrating and I experience similar behaviour in Camtasia 2020.
To be quite honest I'm not sure if the problems I experience mimic yours exactly?
I work with a lot of tracks and animations at times.

By built in reflex,
The only solution I've found is to lock the tracks I don't want to select .

"Or maybe I should say the tracks Camtasia is selecting against my will"

That way I have full control over the media I need to have full control over. Its less than ideal but works.

Regards,Joe

thanks for the screencast

looks like you are using a spotlight callout that's defining a rectangle area, with the sketch motion callout on top?

locking the other tracks should enable you to get around the issue, but any chance you can share a screenshot that also shows the canvas and the objects on the timeline?

Yes, locking the track fixed the issue but unfortunately remains inconvenient if you have a lot of tracks.
Please find the link to the screenshot here:https://www.screencast.com/t/XVibV5R19C
Let me know if it does not capture what you want to see.

Thanks for the clear demonstration!
Maybe my screenshot is not as clear as I thought. In the second screenshot(https://www.screencast.com/t/GgLJcK2dwoL6), I show that the oval sketch motion is on Track 10. Therefore, it is way on top of the other callouts. This is why you could not produce it. So, it is on top of both the rectangular sketch motion and the spotlight.

when looking at your 2nd screenshot, the SM callout is definitely on top; but when looking at your 1st screenshot, it is shown on track 2, under the spotlight; the SM also shows the wrong graphic on the timeline object

any change you have the SM and spotlight repeated on tracks 2,3?

maybe detach canvas, and alt-tab to just show the timeline/tracks; you should be able to see 9 tracks

something is interfering with the normal behavior

it is possible that your project has become corrupt

long shot ...

make a safe backup of the project, then delete/add back in the spotlight/SM; any help?

Unfortunately, this problem has occurred on all projects I've worked on.  I can deal with it for the moment with the lock track function. However, it would be nice to have a more convenient solution.:)
Thanks a lot for your help, really appreciate it!

there seems to be something wrong with your install of Camtasia 9 [wrong graphic, etc]

I am unable to reproduce the issue in Camtasia 2019

perhaps tech support can help?

or, install the free Camtasia 2020 trial; see what happens?

or, uninstall/reinstall 2019?

sorry I couldn't fix it for you
