I am developing software training for a client and they want specific areas of the app highlighted while the rest of the screen remains dark. The spotlight feature appears to be the best tool for this, however, they want curved edges, feathering and a thicker border, as pictured below. I have three versions of Camtasia installed and none of them appear to have any capabilities to do this. I've searched the forum and it appears that this request goes back at least six years without a solution. I've tried using the simple rectangle, but this requires a lot of manual work to darken everything else while highlighting one region and does not work well with simultaneous scroll, something that occurs frequently throughout the video. Appreciate any workarounds you might have. Thank you.
I've attached the image. Client wants a rectangle with feathered edges with some weight on border as you see here. I'm told that Camtasia for Windows does not support this effect and searching my three versions of Camtasia, this appears to be the case. Various people have recommended doing the image in Photoshop and then inserting it to the Camtasia movie. I don't know if this is going to work because there is a lot of scrolling throughout and the Spotlight feature moves with the scroll whereas I don't think a static image will. Still looking at my options. Appreciate any feedback.
And note that the rest of the screen should be dark as seen here. I'm thinking I will apply a dark overlay to the entire screen and create images of each highlighted area in PhotoShop and insert them in over the darkened background. May not work with scroll very well but this may be the trade-off. Going to take much more time than just using the spotlight effect in Camtasia. It's a shame they haven't enhanced this feature in the last five+ years.
