the 30 day trial is the full version; it will just quit working after 30 days

any projects you make during the trial period will be un-accessible after the trial ends unless you purchase the software; but any video productions you make with those projects will continue to play OK after the trial ends

however, the trial is for evaluation purposes only; no commercial use; no hosting of content made during the trial [like no YouTube], etc

Thank you for your answer Kayakman - So I can understand though, if i give it a try now and create some videos, I end up using/keeping them, but find that Camtasia is something I don't want to buy now.

After the 30 days, I obviously can't use it anymore, but nothing would happen to the videos I had already created, right?

And there aren't any watermarks or anything on them like that are there?

Greetings bkunzmann,

We do not have any watermarks on videos created with our Trial Version of Camtasia Studio.

Thanks!

Hi Jason and everyone at Tech-Smith....

I must say I appreciate that Tech-Smith decided to provide trial of Camtasia to be the same as the full version without watermarks or limitations. I know there will be people that take advantage of that... unfortunately our world is full of stupid people with no morals or appreciation of hard work.

But as a fledgling start up insurance agent that doesn't have a lot of money, I would be far more likely to buy your product after I get up and running and recommend it to others (I currently have over 7million networking connections in linkedin so I have a vast array of people to advertise camtasia too on linkedin.... when you let me use it for free for 30 day trial with full functionality without a watermark, you bet I'll buy it when I can afford it and will tell people all about it on my website and LinkedIn and Facebook and Twitter and... well you get the picture.

I have to say, that's fantastic customer service and great integrity and caring more about making a difference in the world than making a buck. Very rare in the commercial world these days and I for one applaud you.

Ps.... I used to be in the IT world and about 9 years ago I purchased Camtasia and SnagIt for our company Kokusai Semiconductor and set it up for the manager of the training department so I know how fantastic the software must be now because it was better than Sony Vegas Pro or any other pro video editor package 9 years ago, I can only imagine what it's evolved to today.

Thank you thank you thank you.... You just made my wonderful holiday weekend that much better!!!! :-)

God bless and continued success to Tech-Smith and all it's employees.

Brad

@Jason. I am using Camtasia for the past 3 years in two different companies. But the only drawback i felt is ,  the video quality is get beaten whenever I am editing a video which is captured using some DSLR devices.. What is the reason behind this ? Are you people working on it ?

Camtasia Studio IS Camtasia Stuidio

as far as I know, there is no such thing as "Pro" Camtasia Studio

the 30 day free trail is all there is; the trial version is identical to a licensed copy in functionality

Be aware:

Section 2.7 of the Camtasia Studio EULA states:
"You are strictly prohibited from installing or using a copy of the Trial Version for any commercial training purposes."

Other than that written restriction, it's fully functional.

Hi Linda,

The Trial is not restricted in any way. The PowerPoint add-in should work in the trial in the same way that it works in the full version.

If you launch Camtasia Studio and in the editor you go to Tools > Options there's a PowerPoint tab that should allow you to enable the PowerPoint add-in.  If that doesn't work, consult this support article:
https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/203728428-Camtasia-Windows-PowerPoint-Add-in-Issues

If that doesn't help, on the same site (https://support.techsmith.com) you can open a ticket and someone should be able to help you -- even for the trial. We're generally able to respond to support issues within one business day.

I personally feel it is worth the price and have used this software for many years now. There are cheaper or even free software products that do similar steps as Camtasia Studio but they do not have all the options that Camtasia Studio has to offer. Adobe has software but I do not care for their prices either and their methods now for using the latest products. I guess the old saying is you get what you pay for and I feel that I get my money's worth from the TechSmith Software. Just my opinion.

I used a trial version of Camtasia a few years ago. After the trial was over, I wanted to view some videos again to decide for sure whether I did or did not want Camtasia -- but when I tried to access the videos AFTER the trial period, it would not allow me to do so. I don't understand everyone saying that they are still able to access the videos. How is that possible? I cannot. And the information I need to access is vital. Thank you in advance for any replies.

when you say "videos", are you referring to the screen capture clips [camrec or trec] made with Camtasia Recorder, or to project [camproj] files made with Camtasia Studio's editor?

Both require the application to view

However, when a trial copy is still active, you can produce [render] to many different video formats, and those videos remain view able after the trial ends

Hi kayakman - Thank you for responding. I'm afraid I am NOT very tech-savvy. In fact, that is the reason I did not go ahead and purchase Camtasia at the time -- I was just in "over-my-head".  I don't know what camrec or trec are. I see a few Green or Red fiber photo squares with "film clip" borders at top and bottom. They have the name of my project with .cmrec or .cmproj after them. Is that what you are referring to? And when I click them, I get a Camtasia:mac "Order Now" button with the info about the free trial with 0 days left. I understand the trial is over, but from what the posts above said, I thought perhaps I could access them.  I never tried another program -- as I said, I just couldn't figure it all out, and felt I was trying to do something I wasn't tech-savvy enough to do. But I had THOUGHT these had recorded. Perhaps not. I actually tried the trial way back in February 2012. But now I need to view them. *sigh*   Am I out of luck? I don't want to purchase Camtasia because I just simply do not understand enough to use any system, LOL.  Thank you for any info you can provide.

it sounds like you were using Camtasia Studio for Mac

I am a Camtasia for Windows user

however, .camrec and .trec file types are the files recorded by Camtasia' Recorder

camproj files are project files by Cantasia's Editor when tou edit and save

these file types are only usable if you can use the Camtasia application; the recordings exist within those files, but they are accessible only by Camtasia

generally, you can only download and use a trial version one time

Feb 2012 was a long time ago; you might try downloading the current version's trial?  but I don't know of that will work

otherwise, what you need is to have someone produce videos from your original recording files; if you are a Mac user, you'll need a Mac user to do this

another alternative is to contact Tech Support, advise them of the situation; perhaps they can assist?

Just buy it!  All these hoops and chain emails.  I understand.  The software is expensive.  There are some "creeping up" on Camtasia..but in my humble opinion...it is still the best.  I had the same problem at first..it was too expensive for my budget at the time..a fledgling start-up.  Had the money initially..but then spent it all (hundreds of thousands).  Can't get around it.  Camtasia is the best...and well..we hate to lose our 30 day trials.  If you create money making clips in the first 30 days, you'll have enough money.  They put no watermarks..and they deserve kudos for that!  They have helped a bunch of us outl  Hopefully...the limitation of "not having the money" and them giving us a fully functional working copy..that we all came back and purchased it!

This is just an appended comment to the post above:
As of March 2016, produced videos created using the trial software will contain a watermark. After purchase, these watermarks can be removed from the videos created using the trial version.

The trial and paid versions are NOT identical. You can ́t save your project to be used outside of Camtasia without the watermark. Sucks.

You are not correct.  There is an option in the production wizard to toggle on/off adding a watermark,

Impossible. To save the video created in the Free Trial there is no way to remove the Camtasia watermark in the middle as far as I see it. Before producing the video and saving it in another format, it gives you two options: WITH Camtasia watermark (free trial. no commercial use permitted) or WATERMARK free (purchase or provide serial number). I went to the custom production section and there is no way of ticking that off. That would make no sense anyway y for them to provide such an option once they make that distinction. If you know where to go to do that, I would appreciate it.

there was a change made recently that now applies a TechSmith watermark to the center of any video produced with the trial version; the watermark is only applied during production, and cannot be removed; however, if the project is saved/archived, and a licensed copy is subsequently purchased [key], the project made with the trial can be produced again, and the "trial period watermark" will no longer be rendered on the video

otherwise, the operational features/functions of the trial version are identical to that of the fully licensed version

the trial version is for product evaluation purposes only, and is not to be used to distribute rendered videos [as per the TechSmith License Agreement]

Hi Shantipie,

Kayakman is correct, as of March 2016, produced videos created with the trial software contain a watermark. After purchase, this watermark can be removed from those videos.

For those using the trial version as it is intended, that is, to evaluate the program before purchase to see if it meets their needs, this is no problem.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

As of March 2016, produced videos created with the Camtasia Studio evaluation/trial software contain a watermark. After purchase, this watermark can be removed.

Other than the watermark being added during the production process, all functionality and features are fully operational during the Camtasia 30 day evaluation period.

Hi Kelly,

If we purchase a 30 day licence for $15 does that allow us to download the mp4 version of our produced videos (as opposed to only hosting them on your server)?

Thanks for the information.

Hi Wanda

I'm just a user same as you. But my gut tells me that if you produced something using a licensed version (even if it was a 30 license) it's yours to keep and use as you see fit and will not need to be on TechSmith servers.

I'm pretty sure someone from TechSmith will pop in to provide the definitive answer, but I'm pretty sure I'm correct in my belief.

Cheers... Rick :)

Hi Wanda,
If you have created MP4 videos with a licensed version of Camtasia and you are currently hosting those on Screencast.com, you are able to download those videos and use them as you would like/need.

Once you create a video using a licensed version of Camtasia, those videos are yours to use as you need (with certain limitations according to the Camtasia EULA sections 11.3 and 11.4.)

with the free trial, you get one 30 day period to use and evaluate the product; downloading another copy of the trial version at a later date will not allow you to use the software because your initial opportunity has passed

this is basically standard policy with almost all pay-for-license software

if you only need the product for a short period of time, you can purchase a 1 month license to use Camtasia Studio about $15

Hello target2016,

Just to be clear, you cannot use another user ID to get another trial version as per the EULA you signed when you installed your first trial version.

I hope this clears up any questions you have about correctly using the trial version of Camtasia for evaluation purposes.
