Asking about Snagit 13 in C9 because I want C9 users to respond

I sometimes, rarely now, use SnagIt and am  using version 11.  An email arrived about a $25 upgrade cost to version 13.  Eleven works for me but, sometimes upgrading keeps software alive longer as the OS evolves.  However, I'm not wanting to waste money on an unusable upgrade so...

SnagIt 11 has a decent interface and y'all have stated that SnagIt went to a dark interface; which is currently preventing me from using my purchased C9 upgrade.  It has been mentioned the interface was changed.  However, does 13 still have a dark / low-contrast interface suggesting I should refrain from purchasing?

Does SnagIt 13 still allow setting up multiple presets to capture to Word using a single (e.g. Alt+LeftArrow) keystroke?

Normally, I wouldn't think of asking either question but have seen how Camtasia keeps devolving in it's capabilities. VERY hard to read screens, dropped functionality, one-time single keystrokes (1 sec of effort) became buried so that, even when found takes 5 seconds of effort which, in the case of SnagIt would be MUCH too slow, etc.

Camtasia users should understand my concerns and  your comments are appreciated.

They have a Light theme that doesn't work for me.

I'm okay with the Dark theme.

An upgrade for $24.95 isn't a special price. It's what an upgrade costs normally.

You can always download a free trial and answer your own questions. You don't need to uninstall Version 11 ever if you don't want to.
You can export your custom presets from 11 and import them into 13 if you give it a try.

Thanks Joe for your comments and especially the images.  I agree with you on the dark theme.  The light theme seems washed out.  I am more interested in contrast, size, and division.  The dark theme has colored borders that separate the various panes and contrast is excellent.

Is that the version so many have complained about?

Thanks

BTW, When photo editing, and after, I normally prefer a black border around the image as colors tend to look better.

FWIW, I'm a fan of the light theme. The dark theme may be a bit different than what was initially foisted upon us, but it literally made my have headaches using it. Not sure what it was. But caused awful eye strain for me.

I really like some of the new features that come with 13. In particular (and in no particular order of importance) I like the Panoramic capture (I never had much luck with the scrolling capture) I also like the new outlined text feature (I use that all the time when creating memes for use on facebook or pinterest) and the newest cool feature is the auto fill of the background when removing an area.

This isn't to say that it is perfect. Like Joe, I never used the text capture bit. I'm also frustrated with the loss of the trim function and I still find the effects awkward to apply. (I'm always forgetting to click the silly "Apply" button after setting the effect properties)

And I'd have to say the biggest thing I absolutely despise is the new "washed out" colors when setting colors for things like fonts and outlines.

I never used text capture either.  Interesting about the headaches; with dark rather than bright in your eyes.  From what I just read bright images on a black background can trigger headaches so, perhaps (doesn't seem right) having a lighter border minimizes the brighter portion of the image.  For me, flashing/blinking lights trigger issues so maybe the dark background emphasized otherwise minimal flickering.

Always forgetting.... like forgetting to change, again, the don't produce with cursor, option in Camtasia until after reviewing the first production?  :D

Hey Rick,
you can easily select bright colors for your text and callouts.
You just need to save them as your colors.
Use the RGB scale to insure the colors are pure. That little dot you drag into the top right corner is unreliable.

I just save pure bright colors. I don't use anything else very often.I wanted to create a menu like the original color picker. But you've got to deal with a scroll bar if you want several lines of color. I prefer the old color picker. It's smaller and has a lot of choices.

Appreciate the tip. What I've done so far is to save that old color area as a stamp. I might give your tip a shot though! Looks like it may be a simpler solution.

It was SnagIt 12 everyone was complaining about. Dull and dreary is what I would call SnagIt 12.

It's a washed out version of light gray on gray on black.

Text capture was dropped in version 12.No great loss to me, but a lot people are still complaining about that.https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/where_is_it_the_text_capture_feature_in_version_12_0...

There are a number of features that have been dropped.
Some features have been improved. Some nice features have been added. Some people don't like the new UI and some do.

If you rarely use SnagIt, maybe you should wait for SnagIt 14 or 15?
Version 13 came out in June last year and SnagIt gets a Major upgrade about every 2 years.

Thanks again.  I may indeed wait for 14.
