Audio looks missing on timeline

I have an audio and video track in my project. When I cut (ctrl-x) something, and zoom in on the timeline to almost full zoom, the audio to the left of the cut looks like it's missing. If I try to play it, I hear the audio, but I can't see it on the timeline. IF I zoom out a little, then I can see the audio to the left of the cut.

Zoomed in:

This is VERY irritating! Has anyone seen this issue?

Hi Joe,
I have experienced something similar. If your situation mirrors mine then the fix is easy. I had added many audio clips to the library and deleted them from the desktop where I had originally saved them. They had a caption that said "missing". I thought that I would have to re-record because I still needed to do some audio editing, but did not have the wave-forms. I found them in the recycle bin. I was able to get them back to the desktop by using the restore operation in the recycle bin.

My clips aren't missing, they just aren't being displayed. Even when I'm zoomed in, I can still hear the audio and see the video. It's a timeline display glitch.

per your initial post, this seems like a timeline refresh issue; if changing timeline zoom seems to fix it, you may not have serious issue

however, if it persists, suggest you contact free tech support

I'm gonna have to contact support. The issue is persistent, even after exiting and reopening the application. Very annoying.

Hi there

At any point have you tried changing the Hardware Acceleration?

(Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab)

Perhaps worth a fiddle?

Cheers... Rick :)

Ok, so I found the solution: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/231221727?input_string=audio+looks+missing+on+timeli...

I went to enter a ticket, and when I entered my title, they suggested some articles. The one above detailed how to fix the issue.

LOL, I wonder if that's the key manipulated by the setting I mentioned?

I tried this and it didn't work for me.   Somehow the audio on my clip got shut off and disappeared completely.  Perhaps I accidentally hit the "Shift-S" which silences audio in a selection when I had accidentally selected the whole track or clip.

Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be an "undo" for the Shift-S.  I had to select the clip, then edit audio, then drag the audio level up to some level I could hear.

Maybe something like a "Shift-H" for "Hear Audio" should be added to the timeline popup menu?

perhaps double check ...

select the issue clip on timeline
in right-side properties, select the audio group
what is the gain value
also select the timeline clip; is there a green horizontal line?
try and grab at bottom of clip where a green volume line would be if pulled to zero volume, and see if you can pull up

any luck?

also ...  what type of clip?

does it play in another app, like free Audacity?
