Your image confused me. It didn't say everything to me.LOL

The area outside of the canvas is blue and the canvas is transparent .You have  text callouts all over the place "one covering the image size options" and 75% of the UI is cut off at the top.I didn't realize the lower portion was the recent captures tray. "My mistake"
So when I figured out what I was looking at, I deleted my previous response.Obviously, I misunderstood the request. You got my vote, for what it's worth.

However, I did play around a bit.I found if you click outside the image, the textbox becomes a selection and the canvas will re-size automatically.
I think the disconnect is that while you're typing, the callout is in edit mode. Or, it's not actually a selection.

The Canvas is expanded based on Objects/Selections. So that's probably why it's happening.

Can it be overcome through programing without opening a can of worms in the process?

Regards,Joe

I guess my main point  would be this.

The moment the text box become an object/callout.The canvas auto expands. So nothing seems to be broken.

Getting SnagIt to recognize text in edit mode as an object/selection. May be impossible? I can't pretend to know how the border of a callout is created and saved.

I just think the new border is nonexistent, while in edit mode. Leaving the auto expanding canvas with nothing to detect.

Nothing's impossible.  It's software.  typing into oblivion?  Now that's impossible. :)

Well yeah, you can colonize Mars if you really want to. Eventually, and if you invest the resources.

Were talking about TechSmith's $49.95 program. Do you really think their going to invest the resources without 1,000 yes votes or more.

How about it's an impossible request? Will that suit the impossible criteria better for you?

I was trying not be 100% negative here. So now I'll switch to bluntly honest, this Idea doesn't stand a snowballs chance."I'm my opinion"
And I voted for it, thinking it was a doomed request.

So, the screen is x by y and the recents tray is at y-height of tray.  When you redraw the text object to a point where the coordinate of its lower edge is > y-height of tray, you add a scrollbar or resize the screen to fit.

I think you missed my point.
Once you stop editing text and exit "Text editing mode". The text box or callouts "Border" becomes an object and the program can "Detect"the border.
It Immediately resizes the canvas to conform to that textbox/callout.That's what's required for the Auto Resize Canvas feature to work at this time.

That's why I posted the workaround.Click outside the image.

So, that would suggest this to me. SnagIt would need a way to dynamically save or detect changes to the border "In Real Time" for this new feature request to work.

So, TechSmith would have to rework the way SnagIt creates and/or saves text to accommodate your  request. This "May" prove difficult to overcome.

It would take several 100 "Me To Votes" to even be considered, and possibly years to  be implemented.
3 days have gone by, you've amassed 4 votes.

I can see the merit of the request.
However, most feature requests go nowhere.

I'm not saying you shouldn't post feature requests. You never know what will garner support.
I'm afraid you're stuck at coordinate "A" on this one.
