Auto Resizing Still Not Working Right

After much frustration, I have a video. So sad that TechSmith cannot afford to do proper testing themselves, rather than using their users as unpaid testers. When I create a new image and paste something into it, it does NOT resize to the extents. This has been happening for over a half year. I reported it once already.

I have v. 11 at home and had v. 9 at work for 7 years. I never have this problem. SnagIt always sized to the pasted part when you created a new image. It asked you if you wanted to. I click "yes". It works in the older versions.

Sadly, the attention-deficit need to change things constantly often results in breaking them. Version 2018 was so overloaded with bugs, it looked like someone left it under the barn for months, then pulled it out and distributed it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Now, it's broken. My boss wants to upgrade to v. 2019. I just laugh. The quality of the SnagIt has gone downhill with the recently released versions.

This also happens when I place text and use flatten. The image doesn't resize to cut-out the empty space. I understand it resizing to the extent of the text box, when I first place the text. When I flatten that, I expect that text box to disappear, and that the image resizes to the extent of the picture. If the text is outside of the picture, I understand it flattening and maintaining that distance.

What's most irritating is that there's no opinion on the new images to resize to your pasted portion, so either way, we're stuck sizing our images by hand. Not helpful.

Also, every couple of months, my custom toolbar is GONE. It resets to the default.

  • Piss-off at being treated like a Kindergartner. Disgusted with the condition of the SnagIt.

Hi heather

I'm a bit confused with the first line about having a video. Most of the post seems to revolve around SnagIt image capture and what I'm assuming is the option to expand the canvas.

Hopefully you are aware that there is a setting that governs whether the canvas is resized? If not, from your SnagIt Editor application, click Edit > Editor Preferences... > Editor tab.

As for other issues, have you filed any support requests with TechSmith in order to allow them to evaluate the issues you seem to be seeing? If not, I'd highly encourage it. And it's easy to do right from SnagIt. Just click Help > Technical Support.

My reason for suggesting this is because (at least for me) SnagIt is very stable and I don't really see the issues you are describing. Then again, I likely don't use SnagIt in the manner you likely do.

Cheers... Rick :)
