It would be an extremely strong functionality to have. Enable Snagit to automatically extract text from images and use this for e.g. searching and text related to the captures images. One Note could be an inspiration for the Snagit developers.

I use Snagit V2018. If I use "Grab Text" I can copy the Text only. So I use the funktion "Move" => "Smart Move". The Result of this function are several Regions(Boxes). If I move over theses Boxes a Text sign (small 'a') is highlightet at the mouse sign. If I doubleclick I can edit the text, but the font size is not original. It is always smaler and the font size of the menue is not 100% the same size then the origanl font size. Is there a differnet way to m o d i f y the text and keep the font size ?

BTW it -extracts- text, that is what you are probably looking for. If you want to keep the screenshot as it is, but have it searchable, you then may have to convert it to .pdf. However, that requires an Acrobat license though. Maybe there online methods to convert, I didn't try that.

I duplicated this by mistake and just found it now. I think the commentators are missing the point entirely. What the op wants is to make the image library run a grab-text on all images, add that as metadata to the images and then the search box (it even already exists!) could actually find content in a screen shot. It seems a no-brainer if you ask me.

SnagIt uses Abbyy OCR software (part of FineReader).
Abbyy has a product named ScreenshotReader. Basically, if I take a screencapture, and do a preview of the .snag file (\Datastore) then Abbyy ScreenshotReader can can capture text within a selected area and save it to a text file.

However, I guess it would require an additional 2nd step, after a screen capture, to do the OCR.
After all, one may not -always- want to do a text extraction on each individual capture.
If one is taking a capture of a picture (e.g. some landscape or so), there is no reason to run OCR on that.

Below example of text grabbing from a preview of the .snag file, saving the text to a .txt file using Abbyy Screenshot Reader.

One the file has been saved to e.g. .jpg or .png, the .snag file obviously disappears from the Datastore folder.
How to perform OCR then?
How to name the .txt file ?

Challenging...  :-)
