automatically copy to clipboard with preview

Older version used to allow me to capture, preview and have it automatically copied to the clipboard without any extra clicks so I could just paste the capture into the application. Now I have two extra clicks and some mousing to do this. Can you please return the old functionality?

Hello.

This customer contacted me in Support on Snagit. The issue is that if you leave the option to preview in editor on your profile, the output is not automatically applied - you have to go to send tab > finish profile to complete it. This was done to allow a customer a chance to make changes to the capture in editor before following through with the output, but I have seen similar requests for this functionality and thought I would clarify.

I want to be able to do a whole bunch of captures where I paste from the clipboard into Word after each capture, but I also want the history of each my captures to still be kept in the captures tray. Snagit 10

Hello,
On the main Snagit interface, in the Profile Settings group, choose Word as the Share option.

Once you take you capture, it will automatically be put into Word at the point of the cursor.

In Editor, go to your Library. The capture will appear there as well.

I hope this helps!

This doesn't help me nor answers the original question. With "Share" I assume you mean "Output*", else please direct me towards where I can find this "Share" option.

I would like for SnagIt to place my screenshot in the editor and on my clipboard as soon as I make the screenshot. I simply forget (and can't understand why) that I have to click "Finish profile". In my eyes this is poor usability. You draw on the convention of the Print Screen button, which places a screenshot in the clipboard. This extra step breaks with this convention and confuses me as a user.

If I need to edit the screenshot, I can do this and then copy it again. It's logical that you have to copy the screenshot again after you've edited it.

I would like to disable the "Finish profile" step. How do I do this?

*) My version is SnagIt 10.0 (Build: 788)

Still agree to this. 10.0 Build 788 has no way to have screenshots to clipboard and elsewhere. Yes, I have checked "multiple output" and "clipboard" and "preview in editor" under output. But it just does not work that way.

Thanks Kelly, I tried it. The screenshot ended in Word all right, but Library is not receiving the screenshot. I am using Snagit 10.0.0 Build 788.

I too, am, once again, asking for an option to output to both the clipboard AND the editor at the same time - but for a different reason, not just history, but because SOMETIMEs a capture needs to be edited, but not always.

Yes, I can create two profiles, but that really does not solve the problem, either.

The editor gives you annotation choices, among other things, however, NOT all captures need to be edited, YET, some do, BUT ...

> if you leave the editor OFF then you lose the opportunity when you need it.

> If you leave the editor ON, but do not need it, you cannot simply paste in the image without first going to the editor.

'cmon what gives? with all the features you have in there how can you possibly object to an "alway copy to clipboard" check box option?

I think half your DEVELOPMENT STAFF has ROCKS FOR BRAINS. See my posts here:

http://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmi...

Gosh, the guy up at top is right. I see it same way. I write manuals for people, and I grab alot of screenshots. Then, I browse through them in your SnagIt v8 (I believe) browser and rename the screenshots, put them into directories, and then work from that.

But, HOW IN THE WORLD -- can you do it now? The images don't appear in the directory. You can't even find the FREAKING PROPERTIES on that SnagIt Master Program (you need a name for that - CONFIGURATION MANAGER or something). Whatever, you have to go to the bottom, click to set the properties, but they don't tell the ScreenCapture tool where to go. I've checked them but nothing happens. Still doing the same with your Editor.

Man, someone in the Team should pay for some of these changes. You people don't realize how the purchasers of your software use your tool. I might just ask for my $104.95 back and stay with an earlier version. I am just unimpressed.

I love your products, but sometimes, IMPROVEMENT ins't always about chagning everything, just to change it. Microsoft often messes that up too.

I found you had to go to Share under Profile, select both Clipboard and Multliple Destinations. Snag-It support: can you put this in the documentations? Thanks

If you download the Snagit accessory for Word you can copy your screen shot to wherever the cursor is placed on your page. Hopefully this will work for you. You also have the option of copying to multiple locations.

Hope this helps

People/users don't always need/want to copy to word or into any specific application. That is why folks are asking to have it auto copy to clipboard even if viewed in the editor so it can be copied into any program that allows you to paste the copied selection, and yes earlier versions of snag it it would copy to clipboard and be able to view in the editor without having to finish the profile. I'm using v11 and have to click finish profile or ctrl+enter for it to copy to clipboard if the image is viewed in the editor. This is an extra step and I can see why folks are complaining about it especially since the functionality has changed with newer versions. This is a step backwards in functionality in my opinion and others as outlined in the comments here.

Will this get a response? It's simple... I want to be able to choose multiple destinations, and want Editor to be one of them. So, in my case, I do the following now:

Multiple destinations -> Clipboard and File

What I want is the following:

Multiple destinations -> Clipboard, File and Editor

This way, for those times when I'm pasting into an email, word doc, spreadsheet, Windows Live Writer, etc., the screenshot is already on the clipboard. And for the times I want to mark it up a bit, it's on the editor ready for arrows, etc., to be added. Plus, it's in a file so I can always refer to past screenshots.

Does that help explain what we want and why?

I've devised a workaround that solves all of our problems (mine was that I want output to both editor and clipboard in one click). The trick is to disable "Preview in editor" and then Output to the editor anyway.

Step-by-step:
1. Create, duplicate or edit an existing profile.
2. In the Profile Settings > Output: Uncheck Preview in Editor.
3. Check Multiple Outputs.
4. Check Clipboard and Program and additional alternatives you might want.
5. Output > Properties... > Program tab. Choose Add... Find the executable to the Snagit Editor (in my case C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit 10\SnagitEditor.exe).
6. Save profile.
(7. Bind profile to a hotkey if you didn't edit the one you are using.)

Now everytime you capture an image it will be in the clipboard and pop up in the Editor if you want to draw something on it.

Thank you so much torvaldur.

Works like a charm. Amazing that TechSmith has been unwilling to solve something so simple for +2 years.

Time to look for alternative to SnagIt! Funny that I work for a corporation with over 100k employees where this is a common tool. ABSOLUTELY EVERY PEER with whom I have spoken are now going to either revert to v7 or find another product. TechSmith's Product Manager should be let go!

I am new to this program, 11.2.1 and come from PicPick.  New laptop came from my IT dept with this.  With it, you can use a hotkey combo that opens the select region to grab. 'Snag' the region you need and it will go to the clipboard for immediate paste to anywhere you can paste.  You can have the editor save it and it will show as many as you want to keep active.  I rarely edit so keep the editor suppressed.  it could not be easier and I am also astounded that a paid app requires so much effort for a simple task.  I may abandon this back to PicPick.  It is way to good to ignore.  Try it out.  Really.

Seems this is now functional in version 12.

I setup a custom profile with the destination options set to 'Multiple Destinations'; those destinations are 'Clipboard' and 'Program'. The program is set to Snagit Editor.

HTH,
Don

We've been using snagit since v7 and just upgraded to v12 from v10 in my company.  This issue has been the single most irritating and "simple to address by developers" issue when it comes to multiple clicks.  Yes, both in editor history and clipboard, each and every capture . Duh!

What the original poster asked for is exactly what this program should allow users to do with a "hack" found by a helpful user.

SnagIt support staff, when will you add this long standing, needed, and easy to implement enhancement?
