Can you back save from Camtasia 2019 to Camtasia 2018 as 2018 is unable to open any 2019 files? would like to upgrade but this would be a huge stumbling block if any files I send on can not be opened by anyone using legacy versions.

So, nickskehan

Regarding kayakmans shared technique.

There’s some things you need to be aware of.

New features are not backwards compatible.

30 April, 2019: Camtasia (Windows) 2019.0.0  The features I’ve listed don’t include all the new features.

•             Added ability to automatically adjust audio levels with defined Loudness Units Full Scale (LUFS) normalization.

•             Added new mouse cursor effect to smooth out cursor movements.

•             Added new Block Text style for annotations.

•             Added properties to adjust vertical and horizontal text spacing in annotations.

•             Added Whip Spin transition .

•             Add ability to include logos and images to Themes.

•             Improved SmartFocus functionality.

•           Added support for Chinese language

To the best of my knowledge. The ones I’ve listed above. Will become broken if opened in version 2018.

The number of broken features increases when you open a 2019 project in Camtasia 9.

The features added to Camtasia 2018. Used in 2019. Won’t work in Camtasia 9 either.

19 June, 2018: Camtasia (Windows) 2018.0.0

•             Theming - Create themes with colors and fonts and apply to assets and effects.

•             Additional customizable and stock video assets.

•             60 fps video import, editing, and production.

•             New Behaviors (Explode and Fly In).

•             Added support for French language.

Brooks, Camtasia Technical Product Manager. Recommends against doing this. His words speak for themselves.

See his comments here. https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/is-camtasia-2019-backwards-compatible-with-camtasia-9

I like to make informed decisions. Hope this helps. }:>)

Regards, Joe

offered for what's it's worth ...

I've back-converted many hundreds of such projects without experiencing a single problem

even if you back-convert a 2019 project with higher version features, those newer features will just not show in the down converted project; but the converted projects will otherwise work just fine

my suggestion ... just try it for yourself

don't let naysayer "scare tactics" stop you from potentially benefiting from this extremely valuable capability

for me, the ability to convert 2019 projects into 2018 projects and/or Camtasia 9 projects is a major feature of 2019; it's not a liability

I have created many complex, demanding, high value projects in 2019 [not using any "new" features], and have made those work perfectly in 2018 and/or 9 using the simple steps as described in the tutorial

I have others ...

You can attack my character if you wish. I’m not trying to invoke “Scare Tactics”

I’m posting facts your video and original post omit.

When a member posts these words............. this would be a huge stumbling block if any files I send on can not be opened by anyone using legacy versions.

To me, that suggests the poster is cooperating with others on projects. I think it could pose a major embarrassment and predicament for the poster.

If he or she purchased Camtasia 2019 based on your original post. This could create problems as well.

Omitting the drawbacks shouldn't occur.Especially when you're fully apprised of what they are. And tantamount to a disservice to other members.

For what it’s worth, Joe

@ Joe ...

no one is attacking your character; don't be so thin-skinned

your initial post above was intended to contraindicate my initial recommendation, which simply answered the initial poster's question.  why do you keep harping on this issue?

your arguments against down-converting are based on criteria that anyone with basic common sense would anticipate ... that any advanced features in a newer version would never be expected to work in earlier versions.  why would anyone expect otherwise?

and, as I said above, any new features don't seem to prevent back-converted projects from otherwise opening

have you ever tried back-converting a project yourself?

based on the many views the above tutorials have received, and the fact that I've never had anyone come back and say that back-conversions don't work, I imagine that for most, back conversions work out just fine

this threads is now off topic; let's drop it

Your post was misleading.
Now your inferring common sense will save the misinformed from experiencing  drawbacks.

I'm the...........don't let naysayer "scare tactics" stop you. Being the only naysayer in this thread. That was in fact a personal attack. Now I'm thin skinned as well? What's that, flattery?

If you were 100% upfront about this topic to begin with. I wouldn't have posted a word.

This is 100% on topic, as it's all related.

I won't be responding to any more of your rebuttals.
