AVI output is lossless if Full Frames (Uncompressed) is chosen from the Video compression... button. I cannot answer the other question since my MOVs always import with sound intact.

That will be one seriously massive file.

TSCC (TechSmith Screen Codec) is also lossless. It will result in a large file for high-motion content but should be significantly smaller than uncompressed. TSC2 is not lossless but any loss of quality is generally imperceptible.

can you play the MOV is any player?

if so, play it an capture it with Camtasia Recorder [record system audio enabled]

use that capture in your project

Loses some crispness that way; at that point, why not just use a converter to make the MOV file palatable to Camtasia?

It drops frames as well, you can end up with a stuttering video. It's not a very good technique.

There is a process for importing everything you need for QT so that Camtasia can use it; it involves installing selected components (to get the codecs basically) and then un-installing most of QT.  If I can re-locate the link I used for this process, I'll post it.  (Or you can search for it.)

This issue arose because there is a security flaw in QT, so it is no longer packaged with any operating system.  (Side note:  As far as I know, no one has ever exploited or experienced this security flaw.)

Actually, you just install the codec's at install.

You un-check the player and everything else during install and you're good to go. I had to dig up my old screen shot.
Haven't addressed this issue in a while.
