Best setup to record on an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch) to produce 1080p videos

I have Camtasia 3.0.6 and I am using it on an iMac with the screen specified in the subject of this post.

I have recorded a video using the default preset, so the entire screen was taken. The problem comes when I export the recording to MP4 in 720p, because the text which appears in the recording is been affected by some kind of aliasing effect and it is been pixelated.

In the recorder I can select the option to use the 1080p preset, but that is less than a quarter of my screen, so in this case is not an option.

So what do you recommend me to do?

I want to produce videos at 1080p or 720p, both will work since they are almost recordings of programming tutorials so I don't need and extreme quality.

I also have to say that I produced a video exporting it at 1080p, but still the text is not as good as I want (Its blurry).

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've got same Retina.
I've changed Monitor's resolution to default smallest. Then you could crop and resize your screenshot's record when you edit into Camtesia.

I think this is the way to go. With a Retina monitor, you've got a *lot* of pixels there, so inevitably you are going to get a little blurry when you shrink it down to 1080p. So, record less area and/or zoom and pan around a bit. Reducing your screen resolution makes this easier to manage as well. It'll look a little funky while you're recording, but will look good again when you go back to the normal resolution and look at your recording.
