Better sizing for steps

We use the "steps" tool in Snag it quite frequently, but a major frustration with it is that the steps are virtually never the size we want (almost always twice as large, but this varies). Our workaround is to resize the image up, insert the steps, and then resize back down, but this is cumbersome and problematic when it comes to future edits. It would be much better if SnagIt had a slider that let us select the size of the steps we're inserting.

Hi,

If you drop your first step and then resize the step object itself to be the size you'd like, the all of the subsequent steps will be the same size as the first one. I hope that helps!

It does help. We had tried this in the past, but the fonts didn't adjust properly and it just made a bigger mess. It looks like this has been fixed recently.

Ah, figured it out. If you click directly on the image it will insert a shape with the same size as the last. But it doesn't work consistently - sometimes it places a new step, and sometimes it switches to "Select" mode for whatever reason. It seems to have to do with the placement of the mouse cursor relative to the previous shape inserted / edited. The font re-sizing does work mostly correctly now, but it doesn't center properly if you have a double-digit number and you shrink the steps - they wind up right-justified.

So yeah, kind of works. But it's very buggy.

UPDATE: I figured out how to make it work somewhat consistently: You have to be editing the number of the previous step, then double-click outside of that object area to insert a new step with an incremented number at the same scale. And even then it's intermittent (works half the time?) This is silly - the whole point of auto-incrementing numbers is to avoid the edit step. Bug?

Thanks for reporting this to us. I've logged bugs so the team can investigate.
The switching to selection mode is not something I've seen before, if it's not too much trouble, could you open a ticket with our Tech Support team so they can work with you to figure out what's going on? Thanks, and sorry about the issues!

Hi,

We just released an update (2018.2.0) that should have much better rendering of steps, especially at small sizes.
