Under Windows 7, Camtasia 8, I installed the latest Quicktime Pro, but when I record in .MOV, the sound is there but the video is blank. Any idea about that?

Hi John,

I know these aren't optimal solutions, but have you tried reinstalling Quicktime (and then perhaps Camtasia Studio)? We've had similar reports and usually reinstalling helps.

Also, can you take a screenshot of your QuickTime encoding settings? As an example, here is what mine look like:

I'm having the exact same problem. I have Quicktime for Windows and the TechSmith EnSharpen codec installed, but every quicktime I try to export comes out with audio and a blank video screen.

Do you need Quicktime Pro to export Quicktimes?

Hi Doug,

Camtasia Studio does not need Quicktime Pro to encode to the MOV format. I'm sorry that it's not working in this case -- hopefully we can get it resolved.

Could you consider opening a ticket with technical support? You can do so here: http://techsmith.custhelp.com/app/uti.... They'll work with you individually to get to the root of the problem.

Thanks Cameron. I did open a ticket with tech support yesterday, but have not heard anything from them so far. That's why I came here.

Doug,

I was contacted yesterday by our TechSupport staff about this issue. With one user (perhaps you?) we found that recording in Camtasia Recorder to AVI (instead of CAMREC) and then trying to play that AVI file in QuickTime Player resulted in white video. This indicates a problem with the TSC2 QuickTime Component not being loaded and used by QuickTime player.

This is the same root problem as the MOV production issue. Starting with CS8, the TSC2 codec is used during MOV production instead of the EnSharpen codec.

We've tried on a few systems, but have not been able to reproduce the issue. So we'll need your help as we try to figure out the problem.

Can you locate this file in the QTComponents folder on your system?

If the file is not there, please try to re-run the CS8 install. You do not need to uninstall. If prompted, please choose the Repair option.

Please post back with your results. Thanks.

Reinstallation using Repair option did solve the problem for me partially. Now Camtasja renders short video clips to MOV fine but when I choose to convert a 1 hour long video to MOV file, the output MOV goes blank again. Any suggestions ? Thanks

Paul, the blank video after 1 hour sounds like a different problem than the one solved in this thread. Please contact our TechSupport staff for help troubleshooting this one.

Yay! Thank you dro!

That codec was missing; and when I reinstalled it showed up! And I was able to output a .mov file.

BTW -- I reinstalled first from my backup disk and it did not appear. So it must not be on the backup disk. When I reinstalled from an online download, it showed up.

Anyway... many thanks for your help.

I've got the same problem and I think Doug's solution will help. Do I go to Control Panel > Add or Remove programs > Hover over Camtasia Studio 8 > Repair button?

You just need to go to:
Computer> Program Files (x86) >Quicktime>QTComponents and make sure the "TSC2Codec.qtx" file is in there. See this: http://screencast.com/t/LvqDkQaDGV

If not, you can download it on the Techsmith web site.

I also found that I had to open the file from within Quicktime once it was created to get it to play on Quicktime.

iceboy -- you need to go to the TechSmith web site and download the codecs. Then manually drag them into the QT components folder. also once you create the .mov, open QT first and then open the .mov from QT. Camtasia wants to automatically open the windows media player which won't play it.

yes.
is there a limit on time? maybe that is it.
i took my footage and took it to one minute. it worked after all the stuff above
then i ran the 2 hr 10 minutes and it failed.
so then i ran one hour and it worked
so then i ran 1 hour and 20 minutes and it failed.

sounds like it can only render a quicktime somewhere between 1 hour and 1 hour and 20 minutes. is that a safe assumption?

Maria,

There's no limit on time, but the MOV output does use a temporary file, which can be quite large. It's possible that you're running out of disk space during the render, and this is causing the failure.

I'm curious, is there any reason in particular why you need MOV? The MP4 output doesn't require the same temporary file, should export faster, and usually gives you a smaller file, with better quality. Again, I'm not sure of your reason for choosing MOV, but I thought MP4 might be a better option.

Hope this helps.

We recorded a 3.5 hour workshop with CS8 and need to export it as a .mov file, but after approx 1.5 days of rendering (is it normal it takes that long?) when I open the .mov file with Quicktime there is no video but only sound... The .mov file is 107MB. Res 1920x1080

NB first time exporting we got an error message, apparently because of the file name being too long (after 1.5 days of rendering!), which was quite annoying!

I am currently trying to export as an MP4 but it is incredibly slow as well after 24 hours it is sitting at 78.8%

Thanks for any help, suggestions, input

The EnSharpen QuickTime codec is included with the Camtasia Studio install, but can only be installed *after* QuickTime is installed on the machine.

Please make sure QuickTime player is installed. Once QuickTime is installed, please re-run the Camtasia Studio installer, and choose the Repair option if prompted during install. You will likely need to reboot after this, in order for QuickTime to re-initialize and find the new codec. Then try again with producing your video.

Hope this helps.

Rashad, you need to reboot your computer after the installs are complete. If this does not resolve the issue, please post more details (or screenshots), and we'll try to help.
