Blur tool not blurring well on a photo even at "15"

I'm trying to blur sensitive information on a photo of my driver's license, and even at level 15, I can read everything right through the blur. I need to send someone a copy of my DL to verify identity, but don't really want to give them my license number.

It's a jpeg photo.

I'm going to open a support ticket as well, just in case this is something they can fix.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for this feedback, we can look into this. One thing you can do for now is to copy the blur object and paste it again until the information is obscured.

Or you can Go to Marker instead and choose a Black marker and strike through.

Isn't a marker a Camtasia thing?

Well it is, but if you go to the shape tools, you will see a filled in Black Square. You can use that as a Marker. Just use it to draw a square then stretch out one side to make a rectangle which can act as a marker.

I did end up using the black marker to strike it through, but I'm still awaiting resolution of the blur issue.

I agree it is not a Solution but, it is a work-around.

I would like to say that I have the same problem. After using the blur function in Snagit, it is still kind of possible to guess what is underneath.

Would appreciate an improvement of this function with an update.

Thank you.

Thanks for the answer Rick. Looking for a fix rather than a workaround (and extra step for me).

Cheers.

Apologies Robert. Indeed I know a fix is always best.

I figured a workaround might be helpful until such time as a fix is issued. ;)

Cheers... Rick :)

As long as you know this is an issue that must be fixed.

Actually, I take it all back.

I just found when I click on the "Blur" tool, I can adjust the blur amount on the right hand side.

So, everything is as it is supposed to be; maybe just the default value could be a bit stronger so that when users don't realise the setting exists, it doesn't lead to problems.

Thanks.

15 is a little light allow a scale up to 30 would more than likely be enough.

Hey folks,

We just released Snagit 4.1.0 for mac, and among other great improvements we have upped the maximum blur amount from 15 to 50. Let us know if this solves the issues you were running into before.

The new, higher blur amounts in the update fixed the problem. I was able to blur sensitive info on a standard iphone pic I took of my driver's license. Thanks.
