Blurry text in snagit editor.

I'm using the latest version of snagit editor - 2019.1. I'm trying to do some editing of text on a screen shot. However, I can't find a way to turn off the automatic anti-aliasing. All of the text is blurry.

I've looked through these forums and see references to an anti-aliasing setting in previous versions - but can't seem to find it in this version.

Any idea how I turn off anti-aliasing in the text editor feature in snagit editor?

No - this isn't the appearance of anti-aliasing from the OS / display adapter. It's fuzziness being introduced by the software in the resulting raster image.

I use other software packages on the same OS / hardware without this issue.

Ok this is probably one for support. I have never seen a setting for that in Snagit. The ONLY thing you might try just for giggles is in the Editor Preferences / Editor tab and play with the background colors - just to flush out that as an issue. (if you set it to a shade darker and all of this clears up ... I am not betting that it would do anything other than save a step on your support call) Good luck with it

I posted this in another thread and thought I'd post here as well. My callout text was also blurry as soon as I clicked outside of the text box. It turns out that SnagIt was applying an outline to the text by default....which is just weird. I reduced the "Line Width" setting to 0 and it fixed my blurry text woes.

Not sure if this is applicable to anyone else's issues - but hopefully it helps.

This helped me - thank you so much! It is definitely odd to have a default outline around the text.

Does anyone know how to reduce the "line width" in the 2019 version to address this issue. I can't seem to find this section.

Thanks,

Line Width can be found in the  "Properties Panel".

I changed the line width and my text is still coming out blurry. No change at all.
I mostly use SnagIt to scrub screens with sensitive information for user guides, and I find I can no longer replace text believably. Are there any other solutions here?

I'm using version 13 and version 8.

• Version 8 is awesome -- super quick to load even on an old computer (doesn't need to stay resident), text appears on screen fine, and in print as a solid line.  Has 99% of features needed and did I mention easy to use and fast?

• Version 13 is mediocre -- slow to load, must be kept resident to get acceptable performance.  The added features are meh. And just like above, when I click outside the box, text gets fuzzy.  Anything above 100% zoom turns the 10 point text on screen fuzzy.  Even  using 24 point text has angled lines (W or M, or rounded characters like e/a/o) look edge-blurry at 300% zoom.  This makes no sense because it is a scalable font.  Text is always dumped to the screen/printer/PDF as low resolution image instead of a font.

Even worse, when I print the text (verified all black) turns into pixalated grayscale, even using Acrobat.  The capital letter "W" becomes a mess.  Why not send it to PDF as text instead of image?

SnagIt (modern versions) appears to perform a low-res downsample conversion for text that appears  on screen, and then repeat this process a second time when saving as file/printing, which reduces it to "1980's fax quality".

Download the picture and zoom in on different sections to see the different effects when you zoom in.

In version 13, the Line Width setting minimum is 1, and that setting is already there.  I also tried the "print in grayscale" solution that was suggested, no luck.

PDF -- it makes no difference if I use standard, Acrobat High Quality Print, or even set the conversion factor and quality higher than high quality, with no benefit.

The issue has existed for at least 7 years with people asking the same question.  It appears that SnagIt has no care or concern for acknowledging or fixing the problem.

In the attached image, the solid black text lines were created with version 7.  I then flattened text, opened in version 13, and added "Mineral Wells".  It's fuzzy.

If the issue is important to you, the options are (a) waiting another 7 years to see if TechSmith addresses the issue, (b) try an earlier version of SnagIt, or (c) if it's something that commonly affects you, try one of the competing free products for text changes.
