Bring back controller themes in Camtasia 9

In previous version of Camtasia, users were able to select different controller themes during video production.  This feature seems to have been removed from Camtasia 9.  Why?  In my case, one of the themes perfectly match my company's branding.  Since I do no longer have this choice in Camtasia 9, I cannot recommend purchashing the product in spite of all of the other snazzy features that have been included.

Therefore, would you please consider including the prior themes OR the ability to customize the existing theme?  While "50 shades of grey" pretty much go with anything, it would be nice to customize the controller to support branding.  What do you think?

+1 on the suggestion. Especially as related to customizing!

I also work with Adobe Captivate. Captivate allows easy customization of its playback controls. One can choose which elements to turn off or on as well as configure colors for elements and offers the ability to save everything in what's called a "Skin" file.

Would LOVE to see Camtasia take a similar approach with this aspect!

Cheers... Rick :)

I may be misunderstanding the question but I'm pretty sure you can bring your old 8 themes right into 9...

Please... don't stop there!  How?  Screenshot is from Camtasia Studio 8.  How would I bring these themes into 9?  (BTW, Techsmith Support has already told me that "there is not a way to change the theme of the controller.")

Do you know something they might have missed?  Thanks!

I figured maybe it would happen by virtue of saving a CamProj file from 8 and opening it in 9. But nope. Near as I can tell all I had available was what 9 offered.

Looking forward to seeing a hack or whatever that Dustin may offer. Although I do note he said he was "pretty sure". That seems to leave the door open to saying later that it doesn't work as I had thought or hoped. And that happens to all of us. ;)

Cheers... Rick :)

yeah... I'm thinking I mis-spoke based on looking at the screen captures you provided... the dangers of reading too fast and answering on the fly...  sorry to have given you hope on that one

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for taking some time to post your feedback. The SmartPlayer got a pretty serious upgrade over the summer. It's the same player we use on Screencast.com if you are familiar with that. In doing so, we made the decision to sacrifice the themes in order to get additional functionality into the player in time for the release in October. The player is maintained by a separate web services team here at TechSmith. I'll pass along your suggestion to the lead of that team for their consideration.

Thanks

David D. that is great that you are going to pass that along to the web services team. I also liked Rick Stone's idea of having something similar to what the Adobe Captivate has to offer so are you going to pass that on also ?

It is great to see the ideas and future requests coming in and it would be even better if as the Users of the software we could get more feedback from the Company on what may or may not be updated in a new or update revision version of the software.

I also know that there are still a lot of users who have not upgraded for the reasons of lost features that they used on a daily basis like this one for the Controller Themes. It helped in matching your own colors etc. for what you were creating and where you were uploading your videos too in my opinion. Thanks.

I agree the lack of controller options is a disappointment in 9. It's affecting all of our graphic sizing as controller lays over our template (I know, we can set it to auto hide - we like to have it always displayed for our user base). Bring back flexibility of 8. Please!

Agreed.  Customized controls would be a welcomed enhancement.  Rick's example would be perfect.

I would take the old controller options over customizing if it means we can have the choices we had in 8.

David D. - I must be late to the game as I am just attempting to make v9 work for my purposes. Same controller issue. And when it comes to the member experience I am trying to build, I am forced to revert to v8 or worse... publish in Captivate so I can customize... :(
Wondering if this has even made it onto their backlog and what the priority is to allow us to publish content that better serves OUR end-users.

It's one of the reasons I have refrained from purchasing Camtasia 9.  Most decent video editors / creators have player customization controls ...

Hi guys,

If you take a look at your output folder, you will find a css file called techsmith-smart-player.min.css

Not sure if anyone has figured this out, but you can design any type of video player you need and make it work by placing the bg imagery(parts like the volume slider) into that folder, and have your css point to the images instead of its default instructions.

It is a pain, and so much more difficult than just configuring from within Cam9. But I assure you it is possible.

Now, if I can just get Hollywood to notice me, we'll all have a good Chrissie. (ツ)

It really is something a lot of us miss from version 8.  Making videos match "our" customers and clients sites!

What is also needed is a minimalistic player theme for small mobile devices, sure you can auto hide the player, but when touching the screen it comes back hiding half the video on small devices ... not cool!

Please bring player themes back ... !

Having just upgraded to 9, I'm scratching my head on why the choice of controllers went away. Assumed they would be there in 9. We've been using them for years in presentations. Back to 8 it is.

if there are capabilities in CS9 you'd like to use, then edit in CS9, do not add any interactive content [markers, captions, hotspots, quizes]; produce to AVI; in CS8, start project with the AVI, add any interactive content; produce with desired controller
