Bring back old Snagit

SnagIt 13 a dog's dinner. This is awful. A truly painful implementation of what was a simple, logical tool. A terrible interface - about as intuitive as a brick. Can't see colour resolution setting as it's in the Save option. Seem to have lost the Sharpen function. This is really bad, like someone who has no idea of how to use the tool was asked to redesign it. Dreadful I want my old copy back.

Techsmith could benefit highly by listening to it's users.  I complained a few years ago about removing the oval shape for fuzzing out outlines, because that shape fits faces way better than a square or rectangle.  Please NEVER assume because a S/W engineer says this is new and improved, that it is.  I worked for a major defense contractor (where I discovered Snag-It), and the software guys there had the same God complex :-)  YOUR users DO know better..... I have been telling Snagit this for the last 3 generations- Something is HORRIBLY WRONG over there- It is like the fired the original design team and the new team does not have a Clue-  I am looking around as they are NOT listening to their users. Right now they still have the best screen capture i have found- But each new generation they come out with  I START LOOKING HARDER!

AT least  AT THE VERY LEAST- Give us the ability to use the old features-- use the new ones if you want but put a selection in that will allow us to use the program the way we have come to Love and Use it- The training time is killing us and the Frustration of the design is MADDENING

I've been using Snagit for years and love it but the  missing oval is a real pain - especially as the icon suggests there are more options other than a square! - So tell me guys how can I replicate the old oval shape to highlight an item on an image?

Can you tell us more about this "missing oval"?

Note that I just added an oval using SnagIt 13. Is this not what you are referring to?

If that's not what you are meaning, can you clarify? I just opened the Shapes and selected one of the circle shapes.

Cheers... Rick :)

It isn't. The original post states that it's about "the oval shape for fuzzing out outlines"; in other words, the blur tool. In Snagit 9, which I still use at home, you can draw any shape, hit the blur tool and the blur is applied in that shape. In Snagit 12, which I bought for my work computer, you have one choice; a rectangular blur. You select the blur tool, you draw a rectangle. That's it. How anyone thought that this was an "improvement" is beyond me. Nothing in S12 made me want to jump to upgrade S9; quite the opposite, in fact.

Much as I want to support Techsmith, and much as I'd like to try out the scrolling capture, "enhancements" like this are the reason that I haven't handed over cash to upgrade from S9 at home.

Hi, I'm using version 12.4.1.3036, which is an upgrade from an earlier version that I purchased.  With this version, the oval shape had been removed as an option when you wanted to "fuzz out" a section of a picture, like you would want to do if you were posting a picture and there were faces you did not want published.  I have a couple of websites where I post pictures of transit, like subways and streetcars, and its impossible NOT to get faces in the pictures. So, what do you do?  You "fuzz out" the faces.  On the version I have, an oval is not an option, and squares look really stupid, looks like Minecraft :-)  I'm really afraid, with all of the negative comments about even later yet versions, that I am stuck in a time warp with the current version, not wanting to take a chance that something else I have gotten used to and love, has been removed in the sake of making an "IMPROVED" version.....  Not being a professional software developer, but knowing just enough to get into trouble, I know it can't be that hard to leave features (in the code) in there. It's not like you're saving anything.  Bits are cheap.  Maybe what you could do is add a page where you can configure our options, choose the things we like.  Now that would be kick ass!  It doesn't cost anything to leave code in, but it takes an effort to remove it.
