Bring Back the Arrow Keys

First of all, let me say I love, love, love the new Camtasia 9 interface, and the new enhancements, particularly when editing text boxes.  However, I was deeply disturbed when I discovered that the arrow keys don't move the playhead anymore when you have a clipped selected.  Of all the video editors I've used, I like Camtasia the most, and keep going back to it.  I know I can use the comma and period keys, but I found myself wondering who instinctively uses those keys to precisely position the playhead where it needs to be?  I've gotten so used to using the arrows not just in Camtasia, but in other video editors as well.  TechSmith has a hit with the new Camtasia, but changing the function of the arrow keys on a clip is like changing the function of the turn signal in a car, and moving it to the left and right tuner buttons on the radio.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE bring that back.

Or even better. Allow a configuration option that gives the Camtasia user the ability to choose which keys do what. ;)

And lest anyone pop in with, well you know you can change keys via Edit > Preferences > Hotkeys...

Indeed that's true. But we have a very limited set of options there. ;)

Yes the Arrow Keys should move to the focus of what you have selected.
If you selected the timeline it should move the head.
If you selected an object on the canvas, it should move the object.
Or at least, like Rick said, have the option to change the preferences/keys
to what you prefer.

If possible to set as preference, I'm for it, if not, it is easier to get scrollwheels etc to work as it is now. Moving from 8 to 9 speeded up work significantly for me, because my Noob (see kickstarter campain-now ended)started to work only for the time line.

Hi and thanks for submitting your idea!

As outlined in our New Community Processes post, feature requests are open to voting up through the 1st of the month (this month is slightly different, due to the holidays) where we will then tally the votes and present the findings to our product teams. To ensure we have the most accurate data, on the 1st of the month we will be locking the threads that were listed in the Feature Request Round-up that was posted on the 15th. Once we have reviewed the submitted feature requests, our product team(s) may respond to the request, and if that is the case then that thread will then be unlocked for further discussion.

In the event that your idea is not selected for a response feel free to resubmit the idea and share it with your colleagues to garner as much exposure as possible!

Thank you again for your idea and we look forward to hearing more from you!

-Robert
