Bring back the Snagit Notes output

Snagit Windows used to have an output to the post-it note style floating object on the desktop. This wasn’t used often, so when we switched over to our new output architecture, it wasn’t brought over. But there are some users that used it quite regularly. It could be that not enough people knew about it and it was a discoverability issue. So if you’d like to see this in future versions of Snagit, please upvote. :)

With all the note taking apps out there why do we need another one?

Now, if you were talking about a post it note shape that we could use on the canvas, with curly edges and rotation and stuff like that...... then you'd have my attention

This a feature I used daily since its original release several years back,  I have requested that it be brought back.  Invaluable tool

Same.  I didn't realize it was there for the longest time, but I used it religiously.  I was able to look and compare multiple screen shots quickly and easily.  I like that it floated and I could continue to view it while typing into another document.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled PLEASE VOTE: Please add the "share to post-it note" output back in SnagIt 2018..

PLEASE VOTE: Please add the "share to post-it note" output back in SnagIt 2018. I used it for daily reminders of where I left off at work, grabbing a screenshot and sending it to my desktop. Thank you.

TechSmith took this feature away 3 years ago. " Briefly " and brought it right back.
https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/share-with-snagit-notes-going-away

Why it's a question "Again"at all?  This makes no sense whatsoever to me.

Taking away features is nothing more than core customer suicide. At least from my way of thinking. You can  only chip away at the foundation so much.Eventually, the structure crashes around you.

So, TechSmith can offer unlimited Free Tech support for each and every one of their Customers.

But they can't afford to pay some guy to maintain post it notes?
A. I doubt the Note's app code needs updating.
B. Really?

This Idea didn’t get enough votes to be under consideration for a release in the next year or so. Like was mentioned in the original post, it didn’t get a lot of use and was one more thing we had to support when we could put effort into other parts of the app that get more use.

We also wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the options that you can still use. We recognize that they aren’t as fast or efficient:

  1. On Windows 7 and 8, there is an app that Microsoft created called StikyNot. (It was not included in recent versions of Windows 10. It can also be found around the web, but please be careful and make wise choices when downloading). You will have to create a new note and paste your image into a note. But it will work.

  2. There is an app made by another company (use at your own risk) that allows you to put sticky notes on your screen. And accepts images. The new Windows 10 sticky note app does not currently allow images. As above, you will have to create a new note and paste your image into a note.

  3. We have the Program output that can send command line arguments to other apps. This doesn’t work with the apps listed above. But if anyone has a workaround for how the Snagit Program output could work with another sticky notes app, please share. There are definitely a few interested in it.

We are marking this one as Not Planned for the time being. At this point, there are a lot of other things things we’ll be focusing on first. Definitely bring this up again when we do our next round of voting if you still see a need!

Here are the definitions of what the statuses mean for Ideas.
Here is the overall vote count for the rest of the Ideas in this roundup, as well as what has been implemented since our previous round.

Chris Larson, Based on the fact that you use the term 'app' for windows based software says to me that you are smart phone or tablet oriented, and not really focused on real computers. There is no such thing as an 'app' on any computer (desktops or laptops). They are 'applications' or tools, or something named as a type of program, such as a 'browser', or a 'word processor', etc. 'Apps' are stubs of programs and the main software is on the web, whereas on a computer, the complete software application is usually on the computer, except in the case of client/server processing, as is used in business sometimes.

Perhaps this is the real source of why Snag-it has definitely gone downhill since Version 11. It seems to me that with the rate you are going with this product that there will be no Snag-it from TechSmith in the foreseeable future because almost no one will buy it, or that TechSmith sold it. I have remained with Version 11 ever since it was clear that Version 12 was worse. And it definitely sounds from the forum the later releases are even worse.

I already wrote a reply above re: how I used the Notes daily.  Super fast and easy for me.  I am drowning without it.  Ugh.

Anyway, I was told I could still use the 2013 SnagIt.  Why would l do that?  I just paid money to upgrade to 2018.  I guess I could re-download it, but WHY?

I just want to copy something and click and have it on my screen for as long as I need it and then I can delete.  I want to be able to see 2 or 3 or 8 screen captures side-by-side for comparison.
Yeah.... I AM whining.  Dang it. So disappointed.

Notezilla has proven to be invaluable.  I missed the Sang It notes until I found Notezilla.

....and a note to Chris Larson,  Customer satisfaction is why one would put effort into a program element randomly taken away in an upgrade, but we have been through this before....

Sigh.  Another great app made significantly less great by removing a key feature.
I use Snagit Notes ALL.THE.TIME.   It's my primary output. It makes it very quick and easy to take a series of captures, and then go back to each one to copy or edit as needed.  PLEASE return this feature to Snagit.   We purchase a lot of Snagit licenses, and I'm not the only one at the office griping about this feature disappearing.

Thanks,

Bill
